Home pedicure equipment

My sister has requested a pumice stone for her feet for Christmas. I'd like to go a step further and get her all the stuff she'll need to give herself a nice home pedicure. I'm not so interested in polish, I think she has that covered. But any recommendations for equipment/clippers/cleansing goo/foot baths/etc are welcome.

Need help with blisters asap!

I'm working at PAX Prime all weekend (a big gaming convention) and I severely blistered the bottoms of my big toes while dancing at an after-party tonight. I still need to work 8-hour shifts tomorrow and Monday on my feet the entire time! What can I do tonight and in the morning to result in the least pain possible? I have Nike Free sneakers that I'll likely be wearing the next two days. Thanks!

Fix my ashy feet?

Help me replace my bum-around, easy on/off, handyman shoes!

I have some great shoes I love that are ... falling apart. [pic] Unfortunately, they've been discontinued! I can get something sort of similar but there are still some drawbacks. Diligent searching hasn't turned up my perfect work shoe, though. In short, I want something tough like a work boot, easy to put on and take off (i.e. velcro straps), but with walking-shoe type soles and as light as possible. [more inside]

What's the deal with flat feet / fallen arches?

My son, who turns twelve in a couple of months, seems to have flat feet. I can't quite figure out what to do next - if it is a serious problem, if it can be corrected with foot exercises, if we need orthotics, or what. Does anyone have any experience with flat feet? [more inside]

I'm here to buy shoes; I don't need the extended powertrain warranty

Where (if anywhere) can I go in Manhattan to browse a reasonably large selection of high-quality men's dress shoes and try them on in different sizes without needing to deal with any salespeople? A warehouse with a bench would be fine. I am a guy with large but not gargantuan feet if that matters. Thanks.

Where the hell do I find narrow shoes?

I'm 27 and wear a size 9 (sometimes 9.5) in women's shoes. I also have very narrow feet and fear I'll be going barefoot soon if I can't find somewhat affordable, narrow shoes that don't look like they were made for little old ladies (no offense, little old ladies of the world). I am literally down to one brand of shoe. Halp. [more inside]

Shopping for Disney shoes for August

A portmanteau for this man's poor toes:
  • Are Keen Newports good shoes for a long trip to Disney World in August? If not, what beats them? I mean, can I simply wear my running shoes?
  • Do you try on footwear like this with or without socks?
  • Do you allow extra room on the assumption that your feet will swell in the steam heat?

Shoes as comfy as Alegrias, but prettier...what are they called?

I have developed problem feet; bunions, a chipped bone and arthritis. I tried Alegrias and woohoo, they don't hurt!! Nice styles, pretty colors, but they are just a bit...chunky. Know what I mean? I know about Dansko, Keen and Merrell, but are there other brands that combine exceptional comfort with good looks? I want a feminine effect. I like sporty, athletic, fun, colorful, girly shoes. Low heels. I am a lady, 55, petite, active and on my feet more often than off, during my work day. I have an eclectic, thrift store wardrobe, heavy on blacks, and neutrals, with colorful accent pieces. I tend toward "costumes" rather than outfits, if that gives you a sense of my style. I want pretty feet that don't hurt!

Need comfy shoes for around the house

This seems like such a stupid question, but that's because I'm stupid about shoes and clothing. Our new house has laminate flooring, and it's killing my feet. I guess I'm used to the cushion that carpeting provides. I need some shoes I can wear around the house that have enough cushion that they'll prevent some of the foot pain I'm having. Difficulty: I hate wearing shoes in the house -- not for cleanliness reasons, but because I'd prefer to walk around in socks. Some kind of sandal would therefore be best, because it would be the least constricting. Also, I get really hot feet, so I need cool shoes. So, please, name that shoe, and tell me where to find it.

What can I do about the blister that I ALWAYS get on my baby toe?

Whenever I wear basically any leather shoes that aren't boots, I get the EXACT same blister on the baby toe of my right foot. (Not just leather shoes, actually—sandals, Crocs, etc do it too). In most cases I feel pain in the first few SECONDS of wearing them. What can I do about this short of amputating my toe? The pain really becomes unbearable quickly and it's really hard for me to wear dress shoes because of this. Band-aids help somewhat but am I doomed to be putting them on my baby toe for life?

What can you tell me about custom orthotics?

I have seen a podiatrist and have been diagnosed with hallux limitus. I wore an aircast for about 6 weeks starting in December, and felt improvement upon my return visit, but my doctor warned that it was likely my original pain would return and it has. I understand it will get worse with age. The doctor recommended custom orthotics, and told me to schedule a follow-up to get the mold made if I decided to pursue that course. Before I do, I want to understand a little more about what this means and how it will help. [more inside]

Help me find the right shoes to fix my foot pain

I've hod ongoing pain for months in my right foot, and after seeing a doctor and getting x-rays and and MRI done, the best advice he had for me was to buy new shoes and hope the pain eventually goes away. My question is, what sort of shoes am I looking for? I spend about an hour each day walking between classes, work, and my car—aside from that, I'm not terribly active. I'm also on somewhat of a budget, but if I need to pay $100 to not have to limp around, I'll gladly pay.

I have a crazy itchy spot on my foot.

Every once in awhile, I'll get this rediculously itchy spot on the sole of my foot. It's always on the exact same place, in the middle of my foot in the nook right where the ball of my foot meets the rest of my foot. It only happens on one foot, and only for about 5-10 minutes on any given day. It doesnt happen every day, but I haven't been able to figure out what's different about the days it does itch. There is no visable rash, scab, scar, discharge, flakiness, nothing. There is no visable difference in that part of my foot. Does anyone else get this? What is it from and how do I make it go away? (And yes, it is itching now.)

    shoe fit

I bought a pair of men's leather dress shoes with an elongated, narrow toe box last week, and now they're killing me. Something about the funky shape is causing the leather to "bite" down right beneath my big toes on both feet, leading to painful sores. I probably should've gone for one size smaller for a more natural fit, but I've already worn them for a week so I can't take them back. Any suggestions for how to fix this, or am I stuck just getting rid of them?
