I have seen a podiatrist and have been diagnosed with hallux limitus. I wore an aircast for about 6 weeks starting in December, and felt improvement upon my return visit, but my doctor warned that it was likely my original pain would return and it has. I understand it will get worse with age. The doctor recommended custom orthotics, and told me to schedule a follow-up to get the mold made if I decided to pursue that course. Before I do, I want to understand a little more about what this means and how it will help.

I've hod ongoing pain for months in my right foot, and after seeing a doctor and getting x-rays and and MRI done, the best advice he had for me was to buy new shoes and hope the pain eventually goes away. My question is, what sort of shoes am I looking for? I spend about an hour each day walking between classes, work, and my car—aside from that, I'm not terribly active. I'm also on somewhat of a budget, but if I need to pay $100 to not have to limp around, I'll gladly pay.

Every once in awhile, I'll get this rediculously itchy spot on the sole of my foot. It's always on the exact same place, in the middle of my foot in the nook right where the ball of my foot meets the rest of my foot. It only happens on one foot, and only for about 5-10 minutes on any given day. It doesnt happen every day, but I haven't been able to figure out what's different about the days it does itch. There is no visable rash, scab, scar, discharge, flakiness, nothing. There is no visable difference in that part of my foot.
Does anyone else get this? What is it from and how do I make it go away? (And yes, it is itching now.)

I own, and love,
Naturalizer Maude flats for working as a bank teller, where I stand at least half the day and constantly hop off and on my stool. When they're new, the comfort insole is perfect for my feet. However, after a year of use, I've squashed any cushioning they have and they're
killing me. What insoles will fit into a dressy ballet flat that does not have removable insoles?

I bought a pair of men's leather dress shoes with an elongated, narrow toe box last week, and now they're killing me. Something about the funky shape is causing the leather to "bite" down right beneath my big toes on both feet, leading to painful sores. I probably should've gone for one size smaller for a more natural fit, but I've already worn them for a week so I can't take them back. Any suggestions for how to fix this, or am I stuck just getting rid of them?

I feel a bit stupid asking this, but this has been bugging me for a while: is there some illness that can affect women if they get cold feet? This sounds like an old wives tale, however my wife and mother-in-law get very animated about this, particularly with regard to our 8 year old daughter. Unfortunately I have never managed to get much more detail other than a vague mention of kidneys. My google-fu fails me with regard to even the mention of this as a myth, however I am willing to accept that there is some sort of feminine genitourinary complaint that men are not widely aware of. I would just be happier if I knew exactly what it was.

okay, two fold question. My best friend (a petite woman) has always had really sensitive toes. If she stubs them, or anything falls on them, it hurts a lot, and she feels nauseous.
Also, when doing yoga positions that require standing on one foot, the soles of her feet burn, or tingle.
She is in great physical shape, age in the latter 50's, and does not have diabetes. Thoughts on any of this or all?

I am trying to experiment with arch support to assist in alleviating a long term heel pain issue. I have been under a podiatrists care for a couple of years now and have tried almost all of the well known recommended therapies, including custom orthotics, which were way too rough on my feet. We are really at the stage of trying anything that might work, as the definite source of the pain is not spelled out in MRI results.
My specific question here regards over-the-counter arch support. While participating in physical therapy last year, one of the exercises was to stand on a hard foam roller for a while. When I did that, I felt a profound ache in the arch of my affected foot. Generally the heel pain injury didn't involve any symptoms in the arch.
