My husband (A)'s family (parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew) are going on a trip in a couple of weeks. The trip has been planned for months, and he and I had decided long ago that it wasn't going to work for us this year. Yesterday, A. decided he wants to go. There are no hotel rooms available. We will have to stay on the pull out couch in his parent's room. I could use a reality check. Longer explanation inside.

My boyfriend, my father, and I are going to take a trip together in
September. My boyfriend and I are in our early 30s, fairly active, and
are interested in beaches, ruins, rainforests/jungles, white water
rafting, and possibly scuba diving. My dad is in his late 50s, quite
overweight (like probably 150-200 lbs overweight), and enjoys luxury hotels, relaxing, and fun stuff that's not TOO physically taxing. I haven't seen him in a few years, but he may be interested in white water rafting and scuba diving, if his weight isn't an issue. We're looking at somewhere in Central America, most likely Belize or the Yucatan, but we're also considering Costa Rica and are open to other suggestions.

We're looking for a fun place approximately equidistant* from Washington, DC and Columbus, OH to spend a long weekend in July or August. Six adults, 3 kids (ages 1 -6). We're hoping to find someplace reasonably priced. Camping is not an option with most of this crowd, and a place with a kitchen would be great. Any suggestions?
