Recently, Facebook wouldn't let me log in, claiming I had made too many login attempts. But I wasn't even online during the alleged attempts. A geek friend says it's a sign that someone who knew the email address associated with my account was trying to get into it. Is there another explanation? [more inside]
So it seems like the Boston bombings have caused a sizeable minority of my FB friends to start admonishing everyone for not being more upset about 'real' bombings in the middle east/ deaths in Africa. (None of my friends are American, if that matters, all are from the UK). While I too am sad more atrocities from other continents don't get the attention in our media they deserve, I can't help but feel the impulse behind the statements is kind of underhand and nasty in a way I can't put my finger on. Can you explain what motivations drive this? [more inside]
So, I've recently inherited the community and social media role for the company I work for. I'm hoping to use our social media presence to drive up engagement and get users to use our product (a niche-focused social network in the finance realm), but I want to do it without being a douchebag. II am trying to get a handle on web content and which content has, overall, the best stickiness. Sites like YouTube, Tumblr, Flickr are, as near as I can tell, mostly visual. Blog and microblogging sites like Wordpress and Twitter are word based. Quora, Reddit and Metafilter are information sharing communities. Podcasts and music sites like MySpace or Soundcloud are, for the most part, sound focused. And then you have sites like Facebook and Google+ that are trying to combine the best of all of them. I started a facebook fan page five years ago. I hadn't looked at it in a while, and upon seeing it again I find that it has accrued over 120,000 fans. I am the sole administrator, and I never posted as the page. I am not above selling the page, or getting paid to post ads as this page. How would I go about doing this?
A team from our office is heading over to a number of China cities and they want to be active on social media the whole time to promote it. But given that China blocks twitter and Facebook, I need some workarounds. Is there a client like Hootsuite or tweet deck or buffer that ISN'T blocked? And what are my other options? Does instagram work? What about Linkedin?
On that scroll that runs on your left-hand side of your Facebook page, you see that a friend has made a comment on a post. The first few words of their comment are visible, but unless you can find the actual full comment they posted, you can''t figure out what they said, and you don't want to scroll through 1,894 comments looking for that one person's thoughts. There must be a simple way to get to their posting, right?
Work has had me start building responsive html emails to send to our member list with Facebook share links inside. I know you can open links to iOS native apps from emails and websites within the iOS environment, but is it possible to have those "share to your wall" links work correctly? I've googled around a bit, but not having any luck finding a clear answer.
Facebook has sent me a code for $50 in free advertising to use in promoting my blog and/or its page on FB. Is it worth bothering to set up a $50 advertisement on Facebook when I'm not willing to spend anything at all on advertising over and above that? And it makes me nervous that they want my credit card info up front — are there pitfalls to avoid in making sure nothing gets charged to my credit card?

Recently, several friends and acquaintances in their 20s have passed away. Their online accounts -- particularly their Facebook accounts -- linger, as memento mori, covered with "miss u" wall posts and that sort of thing. Which has got me thinking about what will happen when people who are now in their 20s and early 30s die. Especially if they die young. [more inside]
I have been combing the social networks I use trying to find a way to link two of them. It's not a big list; Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Soundcloud, and Wordpress. I know about IFTTT and Hootsuite, but I'd prefer to not use third party apps if possible. Facebook and Twitter of course, connect to almost everything. But I'm also trying to figure out how stuff I upload to Soundcloud can be posted on LinkedIn. And likewise, I can't get LinkedIn posts to show up my Facebook business page. Is it just not possible w/o 3rd party apps that will make posts I don't need? If there is a way, can somebody tell me?
I don't want to breech the fb borders yet, as I feel it could kill some of the mystery and magic of getting to know her in real life, but we may never cross paths again. Do I exercise my limited patience for a moment that I can't wait for or just send a msg and start the ball rolling? [more inside]
I have just become the person In Charge of Facebook for my small company. Last week I sat down and wrote some Facebook posts that my boss thought were "too cheesy." I agreed with him. They totally were. I am a social media lover- I have a tumblr, a Facebook, etc. I know when people try too hard and used to work for a government official who Did Not Get Facebook and so I know what definitely doesn't work. I can load any website on my MacBook except Facebook. Facebook will not load on any browser (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox) -- they all give error messages. Safari says "The server where this page is located isn't responding." Ever since I've had a facebook account, I've had it set so that nobody can add me as a friend; I must add them first. Recently, I added a friend of mine, and I didn't receive a confirmation that he accepted; I could simply see his wall and stuff an hour or so after I added him. When we hung out next, he said, "So, you finally added me on facebook." He'd apparently added me two years ago and to him, I'd never confirmed, but I'd never even received notification of his request. I've had my fb account for years; certainly there must be other people I've inadvertently offended in this way. How can I view pending incoming friend requests, when I've never received notifications for them?

I'm really tired of social media; I've grown to find all of it (FB, twitter, etc.) endlessly boring. You're on Facebook and many of your contacts are expressing their opinions, frustrations, affirmations and wit by means of shared and reposted .jpgs with some sort of text sentiment on them. Sometimes they're simply text, sometimes there is a background photo or illustration. What are these things called? Have we got a collective term for these graphic motto things?
