"I Voted" Selfie Contest?

I run the social media pages for our school's page, and want to do our part to GOTV on the 8th. I was thinking about doing a prize drawing for people who post selfies with their "I Voted!" sticker. As long as the selfie is taken at least 100 ft from the polling place - is there any legal issue here? I'm in Missouri, if it matters. We all get offered stickers here, and I suspect the number of absentee voters in our area will be low, so not too worried about them feeling left out.

Are non-committal friends the new normal?

It is sometimes a herculean struggle to get people in my friend group to commit to events. Often 50% to 75% will cancel the day of the event, just hours before. None of them have kids, serious relationships, or crazy work schedules. Is it me? Could I organize things differently? Or is this the new normal? [more inside]

Problem with New Facebook Status Update "Effect"

When I try to type something into a Facebook status update, I get a lightbox effect wherein the update pops forward and the rest of the screen dims. Unfortunately, this new "effect" makes me lose characters I'm typing, which is driving me effin' bonkers. Facebook, like most monoliths, isn't going to be helpful with fixing this. Any ideas? Scripts I can block? Etc.?

Coping with being friend-dumped in the age of social media :(

This question contains ongoing millennial grief about being friend-dumped in the age of social media! It's been over a year, I made it so I can't see her Facebook anymore which is great and everything was going perfectly, and I was totally over it. But now she's popped up on my Instagram feed, and it's making me upset all over again. I need some healthy mechanisms to deal with this! Please help! Lots of special snowflake details inside. Creating new Facebook pages just to secure the URLs: good or bad idea?

I'm the digital marketing manager at my multi-location office. Coworker at another location just made a new, high profile Facebook page for their location without checking with my office first. The cat is officially out of the bag. Do I now make placeholder pages for each of the other locations in order to claim the URLs for standardization's sake? Or would the greater web crime here be to create new Facebook pages that might ultimately remain empty? [more inside]

Explaining how social media works to my boss

I'm looking for some good articles that explain the timelines of social media to my boss. I'm struggling to get him to understand why delaying posting things that are already published online on news websites for days or even weeks doesn't make sense. Ditto delaying posting photos from events for up to two weeks. [more inside]

When is it wise to crowdsource for info professionally?

Since AskMeFi is one of the OG crowdsourcing platforms I know, and since I love irony, I wanted to take this question here for an article I'm working on. With the proliferation of Facebook professional groups (particularly for writers), it's so easy to ask a large group of people a question in a short amount of time. But that's not always a good thing. Sometimes you get good info or helpful insights but sometimes you get unhelpful information, or get sidetracked in a side conversation, or get sucked into a drama vortex. So who has mastered the art of knowing when it's a good idea to toss a work-related question (like this one!) out to a huge group of people? When is it better to do your research in other ways?

Yes I feel ridiculous

My husband and I had a really bad fight some time ago. We have our differences politically, and some of it concerned arguing over political things the other person posted on their timeline. In a fit of anger, I unfriended my husband and removed my link to him in the family/relationships section. Anyway, we've long since made up and wish to restore our facebook connection. How do I refriend/restore our facebook relationship without it showing up as "news" for other people's timelines. The last thing I want is a bunch of "likes" at the fact that we are married or friends again, or for our inlaws to see we weren't facebook friends. Help!

Artsy beautiful interesting facebook pages to "like" and follow

My collective facebook friends seem to have stopped posting anything interesting and my timeline has devolved into a 24/7 shouting match on politics/privilege/the election. I need new stuff. What are some beautiful, unique, artsy, stylish, etc pages I can follow. Interested in: art, beauty, style, fashion, weird stuff, horror, psychedelic, etc. NOT interested in: cheesy motivational stuff, cult of positive thinking, politics, war, guns, sports, cars etc. Give me your best! Bonus question: is there a easy way to filter out the angry posts but still see when a friend posts cute family pictures or life updates?

Is there a way to do Facebook light?

So far, I've managed to stay off of Facebook for a whole host of reasons, especially my reluctance to give so much of my information to a big corporation (and what seem to me to be ever-changing privacy rules). But a few groups I belong to are increasingly announcing events solely on Facebook. I can go look at the individual pages (though Facebook is making that harder), but it's really a pain to use it that way. Nonsense Characters When Attempting Sign In To Facebook Or LinkedIn?

Pretty much just like it says.
