CHALLENGE TIME! You are lent some expensive, professional grade video equipment for 18 hours and told that you may use it as you see fit in the time you have. Assuming little to no preparation beforehand, what do you do and/or film with it? Ideally you'd like the owner (or anyone else who sees your work) to be mildly impressed, knowing that you have no actual solo film making experience whatsoever.

I would like to make a 40 second long outro to a promo video, in which the clip gets smaller, and as it does so, other clips around it come into frame. So, it starts with one clip, shrinks to a grid of 9 clips (3x3 grid), then to 25 clips (5x5 grid), and then the whole thing shrinks to reveal the image behind it. I have an idea that doesn't hurt my head to think about, but what's the easiest method? I'm thinking of doing
this. Better explanation inside.

This is a big question. I'm doing a project, traveling around the world (
map) for up to 12 months. 4 days in each city, then moving on. While traveling (bus/train) I'll be editing footage from the previous location, then uploading it to the website. I want to make sure I'm going with the best/easiest equipment to travel with, from shoes and shirts to cameras and computers (and everything else!). What should I bring with me?!

Help me make my audio/video fcp life easier. I'm spending far too much time encoding and converting, and there are issues once I've done that; how do I speed the process up? I'm going to be doing this on the road for 12 months, so I really need a better method. (detailed description of tech specs/issues inside)

I am a Final Cut editor working on a first-class Mac Pro. But since I work at a shop with three other editors, I always seem to be hunting for various cords and cables (headphone splitters, rca to quarter-inch connectors, DV deck firewire cables, etc). I'd like to create something like a first-aid bag for myself, complete with all the accessories I seem to lose time searching for - like a CF card reader. My question is what would you put in the bag and what kind of small, manageable bag would you use. Links welcomed. Thanks.

Digital video workflow question: I'm editing a greenscreened music video, and wish to do a rough cut in Final Cut, then move the project into After Effects to do compositing. However, the only automated means of conversion the project is Automatic Duck's plugin, the price of which exceeds my budget. What's the best workflow for moving a sequence between the two applications under these conditions?

I'm going to be getting Final Cut Studio 5.1 at work. Can I edit mpeg-2 files in it? I couldn't in the old versions, and I can't figure out the tech specs to know whether I can INPUT mpeg-2 to edit or just export to it.

DV / Final Cut Pro question: We just upgraded cameras to a Panasonic DVX100B, largely for the ability to shoot in 24P. However, imported footage still appears interlaced in FCP, and it's unclear to me what our new configuration should be. How will we need to change our workflow in order to edit in 24P? (More specific inside.)
On an unrelated note, we just imported a tape which appears to be corrupted. Can it be salvaged? (More details inside.)

I have some video on a DVD that I want to edit in Final Cut Pro. What's the best intermediate codec to use? I don't have space for uncompressed video, and the rest of my footage is DV-quality, so I can afford a bit of quality loss.
