Driving Miami to Oklahoma City need help

Need to drive to Oklahoma City this weekend from Miami, need some help....
Will be helping my son with the driving over there ( he will be training at the FAA air traffic control center at the airport)
Because of the short notice,FAA housing is not available at this time so he would have to stay at a motel nearby.
If any of you have done the trip, please pass on your driving routes and any helpful suggestions.
Also if you could recommend some short term stays near the airport and if there are any bad neighborhoods in the area to avoid.
Thanks!

Help find this plane crash not listed on FAA

Help me find a record/info of this air disaster: January 2/3 either '69 or '70 Peoria Illinois. Aircraft was a DC9 and company was possibly Ozark. Flight departed Chicago.

A search of the FAA website reveals nothing! No google luck either. My Dad was on this flight returning from visiting my grandparent/ his parents. As stated above the plane left Chicago, the plane made a landing at Peoria on ice where it spun and slid sideways along the ice. The landing gear wasn't built to take the stress of this and snapped causing the wing to dig into the ice and the front and back of the plane to detach from the centre (where my Dad was sitting). He believes there were no fatalities in the crash (mainly due to the pilot cutting all electrics). The plane was full of college students and the whole thing was treated very 'hush hush'.

It was one of the few plane to fly in the blizzard but the pilot insisted on flying.

The airline was handing out free drink prior to the flight.

There was small private craft that passengers of the craft were told had to land in Peoria before their plane could land and we're also curious what happened to that plane.

I'm currently flying with my Dad between Sydney and Incheon(Seoul), we're somewhere over the China sea, and the wonders of wireless and google can't help me find any record of this crash.... can mefi?

Help me debunk...

I would like to track down a local rumor with an Urban Legend feel... I work next to fairly large local company. Practically every day, the CEO arrives & leaves via helicopter. The rumor is that every time he lands or takes off, he pays a fine to the FAA. The rumored amount of the fine ranges from $1,000 to $20,000. How do I find out the truth? Checking the FAA site has not helped. This article (scroll down to "Long Island Towns Place Restrictions on Noisy Helicopters") seems to indicate that FFA regulations on helicopters are less restrictive than fixed-wing aircraft, but... So what? Can anyone provide more info? Or point me in a direction? Thanks!

Airline policy shift?

When did the FAA/airlines stop asking those 2 questions about whether someone had given me something to bring on the plane, and whether my bags had been out of my possession at any point? What was their justification? I want to say that this changed after 9/11, but that doesn't really make sense.
