We are headed to the UK in late July and plan to go to Scotland for about 9 days in early August. I just realized that Edinburgh will be in the midst of its festival season in August and my partner is now thinking maybe it will be unbearably crowded and expensive, and we should avoid it on this trip. Is Edinburgh doable in August if you don't particularly like crowds? Are there ways to lessen the pain?

The Stand has been a long-running comedy club and Edinburgh Fringe Festival venue, first in Edinburgh, Scotland, and with later-opened branches in Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne. I noticed that there is now a New York City-based comedy club and restaurant called
The Stand NYC. I didn't see any indication on the websites of either club that there was a connection. Is this an example of the use of a trade name in another national jurisdiction?

Asking for a friend. Ideally I'd like to find a well-established mainstream psychotherapist with experience of both acute and long term treatment and support of adult patient with depression. CBT, integrative and/or psychodynamic modes, and with a positive view of integrating with NHS services. Ideally also with reduced rates for low incomes, but this isn't vital.
I know about the COSCA list, but am trying to get a recommendation based on opinion or experience.
Thanks in advance.

My almost-husband and I are leaving for our Scottish honeymoon in less than a week. Hooray! I think I've finally nailed down most of the details—after many, many hours of scouring the Interwebs—but I do have some things I'm hoping that the Mefites over the pond or seasoned UK travelers can help me with. Mostly transit-based questions within (warning: I'm one of those people who absolutely
must plan these kinds of ridiculous details in advance, to prevent myself from stressing out and becoming a complete nutjob), but also a few less-important (but more fun) bonus questions, just because.

I'm arriving at Edinburgh airport at 7.45am on a weekday, and taking a train from Edinburgh Waverley at 1.30pm on the same day. What can I do or see in Edinburgh (including getting breakfast somewhere) and ensure I catch my train at 1.30pm? More details inside.

I am planning an April trip to Scotland and would like to take the West Highland train from Glasgow to Mallaig/Skye. Arriving in Skye, I would like to rent a car. Problem is, I would like to return to Edinburgh through Glencoe or Loch Lomond,
and enjoy the flexibility that comes along with having your own car, rather than take the bus. Can I rent a one way car between Skye and Edinburgh?

Bonehead and I are going to Scotland in July, and will be starting in Edinburgh and culminating in a singing session in Cullerlie, near Aberdeen. On the way I'd like to see the Highlands, Skye or maybe Oban. My question is twofold: what awesome things can Scottish Mefites suggest to us to do between July 15th and 23rd, and 2) any appetite for a meetup?

I'm based in Scotland, and looking for clever ways to raise more money for a charity music show I am putting on. A decent number of people should be coming (100?) but not sure how many of them will donate before the night, I'd like to have a few things on the night to make sure I get around everyone to give them the chance to help, especially as I am not doing something super-challenging like running a marathon or skydiving etc. so am in no physical danger. At the moment the biggest danger is being dressed like a pirate singing backstreet boys songs (crazy voters!)

Help me identify a novel about a female student in Edinburgh, her boyfriend with acne scars (referred to as 'my soft-scarred angel') who used to buy her nice underwear, and some kind of traumatic event in her past (either parental or some kind of mental trauma) that kept coming back to affect her. It was printed in the '90s and googling the details I know brings up nothing!
