Since Verizon ditched the subsidized-phone-with-contract deal, I'm not sure what the best way to buy a phone is anymore. My contract just ended and I'm DYING to get a new phone. My last one failed under warranty and the replacement that they gave me had a battery that would barely make it through the day ("like new", my ass). I've been counting the days until I was able to upgrade. [more inside]
I was given a Droid X2 that I'd like to re-use as a music player, etc. The phone has been...reset? and is at the 'call Verizon' screen. I have zero experience installing operating systems on Android phones. Is there a way to install an alternate OS on this phone that would let me use it? All the walkthroughs I've seen assume you can install software on the phone. I have PCs and Macs available to use to help install what I need.
I just bought a Droid DNA from Verizon. I took some pictures and want to transfer them to my Win7-64 system via USB, but I can't figure out how. [more inside]

app filter -- I am finally getting on the smartphone wagon, and it will be a droid (probably a used G1 if that matters). Lots and lots of my job involves talking on the phone. I want an app that will automatically time my outgoing and incoming phone calls by contact and/or by info that I type in. I want to transfer that information on a monthly basis to my computer, to sync that information with my billing program. [more inside]

I am getting my first smartphone in about a week on Verizon. It has to be Verizon. I don't know if I should get a Blackberry or a Droid, so I go into the store to take a look. Then I see the Eris. And now I find out the Nexus One is coming to Verizon. Uh...? Help me out here. [more inside]

Got my Motorola Droid. Love my Droid. However, Verizon's impressive map doesn't seem to include the cell phone black hole which is my neighborhood. I was hoping to hook my Droid to our home wireless network to avoid the slow connection problem, and dutifully inputted our WEP key, but all efforts to get the Droid on home network have been a bust. I did check the Droid user forums and download a couple of apps -- still no luck. What else can I do besides return my Droid? (Which ain't gonna happen.)
I took a look at the Droid and am very tempted. Have a Blackberry Curve which is fine, but I'm due to upgrade anyway. My contract with AT&T (blech) runs out in October, cancellation fee isn't much. Droid should save me $50/month I'm currently spending to keep my Curve synced with my work Outlook. What think you, hive mind? I know there are a lot of MeFi Droid owners. I trust you way more than Amazon reviewers.
