I'm on the board of directors of an org that's hosting an event. I'm expected to pay my way to the event, though I'm teaching and donating my time. This is a serious financial hardship for me, but not for some of my peers. How do I ask for/get assistance when they don't need it? How do I encourage the org to move to this model for everyone? My school-aged children received some money for the holidays and decided to buy toys for needy kids instead of spending it on themselves. I took them shopping yesterday and, all told, they've got about $300 in toys to donate in addition to what I'm also kicking in. Now, what are we going to do with this stuff? [more inside]

What social networking sites are there for managing personal donations? I have some projects in mind that require more resources than I have available. I'd like to set up some system for people to donate both money & expertise to help me take my ideas & realize them. I could just put up a little writeup with a PayPal Donate button on my personal domain & point to it from various places I frequent, but I'd like to see if any of the donation-oriented social networking sites have any elements that'd make them a more attractive venue for my plea.

I am moving away from Madison, WI on Saturday. I want to donate a whole bunch of clothes and shoes and things. I can not for the life of me find hours and guidelines online. I often go by a "donation station" while on the bus, and will stop there tomorrow, but it would be nice to find this information so I can just call a taxi and run over with all my donations tomorrow, instead of doing so on Friday.

Where does Falun Gong get all its money? Today, a broadsheet newspaper called the "Epoch Times" showed up on my doorstep. I browsed through it, and it's obviously a mouthpiece for Falun Gong masquerading as a reputable newspaper with a lot of anti Mainland China articles. The company is apparently headquartered in Manhattan, and their distribution has gotten as far as residential streets in Boston suburbs.
This is a slickly produced paper with offices in a pricey locale and a lot of copies to dump. How can Falun Gong afford to do this if they're struggling so?

I have a car that is past its usable life. I'd like to donate it to charity A quick search yields a huge amount of organizations that will "take care" of it for me - so many that the whole thing is starting to feel like a scam. Has anyone donated a car to charity before? Did the promised tax deduction work out? Anyway I could choose a local non-profit to give the money to? The car is currently undriveable.
Tax laws change next year so I need to get this done quickly - by the way, I live in Massachusetts if it matters. [more inside]

I'm going to get rid of my old car and I'd like to donate it, but google searches for anything remotely related seem to be gamed by just a couple organizations. If anyone knows of a Portland or Oregon based charity picking up and accepting cars, care to share them with me? I'm leaning towards charities that deal with health issues, animals, and teens (being areligious, I would lean toward secular charities).
