I'm confused by my GP's bedside manner. I went to see Dr. B today about my sciatic pain after my physio recommended it. She assessed me and referred me for an xray, which is fine. After that, when I asked about relieving the pain of muscle spasms in my leg, she said "I have something that would work perfectly..." and "I'd be happy to give you a note so you can stay home from work..." She seemed to be either thinking aloud, or waiting for me to respond. In the end I walked away with neither. What's going on?

I need a doctor in Breckenridge, CO. I'm having various kinds of gastro-intestinal distress that has been going on for over a month. I feel like I need a doctor who will really take the time to pay attention to my various symptoms and add them up. Any recommendations? If not in Breckenridge, then I'll go to Denver, so if you know a doctor there, that would be helpful too. My tummy and I thank you!

Need to find a *great* GP doctor (and also an OB/GYN if you have one) in Los Angeles. Preferably someone nice who is knowledgeable and interested in finding causes and solutions instead of just masking symptoms.

I'm generally a pretty nervous person. Lately (over the last two months), it's become worse. I jump whenever someone enters the room. I'm quite stressed about everyday things (a disagreement, a social event, my future), and nearly every day my stomach or chest or shoulders ache from these worries. I recognise that my response to this is overblown and irrational, and that maybe I need to seek medical attention. But that's the problem. Can you help me gather the courage to see a doctor?

Does anyone know of a clinic with a gyn doctor where my gf can get an appointment or walk-in today (Saturday)? We're currently in Manhattan, but have a car so we can travel to any borough, NJ, etc. If this information is relevant: The issue is that "something doesn't feel right," e.g., pain during penetration.

I don't understand why health care suddenly costs so damn much. I can understand a few factors - nurses' pay has gone up, new treatments are more expensive (and doctors prescribe more expensive treatments - sometimes
unnecissarily) but these factors don't seem to explain how insanely costly health care has become. And where is all that money going? Again, I understand that CEO pay has skyrocketed in the last 20 years, but is that enough to explain the enormous cost of health care these days?

What treatments/procedures/personnel can you decline in the hospital? I know that I have the legal right to decline anything, but does the hospital have to continue to serve me if I do? Does it matter if I do or don't have a regular doctor affiliated with the hospital? Does it matter if its an emergency or not?

ObscureTVFilter: Help me remember the name of this strange medical reality TV show from my childhood. It aired on American television either in the late 1980s or early 90s, and followed clinic patients into an exam room to record their interactions with the doctor and his ultimate diagnosis.

I'm a doctor in private practice. I love to blog, just not about medicine. I like to do more personal writing, post photos and links, creative projects, write about recent trips, my city, etc (i.e. nothing political, offensive).
How would you feel if you found your doctor's personal blog?

I am seeing my doctor tomorrow about quitting smoking. I have tried quitting so many times I can no longer keep count. But nicotine has this tremendous hold on me. I have smoked for almost four years and would like to see my 29th birthday as a turning point. What questions should I be asking my doctor and what questions should I be prepared to answer?

I'm a 25 year old fella looking for a good general practitioner in Austin. "Good" doesn't mean someone who will medicate me with whatever I want and send me on my way, but someone who pays attention to his patients and their needs. Preferably north, but it's not a deal breaker. I'll mostly be going for chronic headaches, if that makes any difference either. Suggestions?

I just had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience with a doctor. This is the reason most people do NOT go to doctors. It kinda makes me not want to go to a doctor.
Let me give you the whole story so you can assess the situation, get really mad, and provide me with constructive advice. If you don't feel like reading it all, scroll to the bottom and tell me what I should do if I am unsatisfied with the quality of care from a doctor.

I don't have a history of ADD but things became fairly complicated lately and I'm certain after doing hours of research that that I have some form of adult ADD.
My doctor is refusing to prescribe anything and believes the only reason I am stressed is because of work/school/family. He suggested taking vitamins and getting more sleep.
What gives? What are my options besides switching to a different doctor?
