My doctor prescribed me regular ol' Tylenol--couldn't he have just recommended that I take my preferred OTC pain reliever? [more inside]
I'm looking for a family doctor in Toronto for my mother. Some of the doctors on the College of Physicians and Surgeons search page only have hospital associations, with no private practise (e.g., this one). Do these doctors accept patients, or do they just do inpatient/emergency/other hospital work? [more inside]
I just got an email from my doctor's office telling me they have "received a non-credible threat." They say they've notified the police and they're putting extra security on, but have given me the option to reschedule. I am a little thrown by the fact that they've emailed me when it is allegedly non-credible. Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do? [more inside]
The medical practice where I work is showing some interest in revamping its waiting areas, especially as concerns patient educational resources. What have your doctors done that you like? What might you find useful? [more inside]

This is a probably a minor doctor issue, but I'm having a hard time figuring out if I should make a complaint or not. Mostly, I don't want to make a complaint if it would not be taken seriously. Content within. [more inside]
I banged my poor little toe into the corner of the coffee table two weeks ago. I seem to have either sprained or broken it. It doesn't seem to be getting better, in fact it's hurt worse than ever the last couple days. [more inside]
Asking for a friend: help me find a psychiatrist or better yet a mental health outpatient clinic in NYC that takes Medicaid HealthPlus and doesn't have insanely long wait times. [more inside]
I had an appointment a couple months ago with a new doctor. I wanted a general checkup and blood work. I expected to receive my blood test results a few weeks later via mail, as I've had in the past from other doctors. I hadn't heard from the doctor since that appointment so called this week to get my results and they say that I have to come in to get my results – there is no option for receiving via mail or discussing over the phone. Is this true and do I have any other option? [more inside]
My SO was diagnosed several years ago with an abdominal aortic aneurysm and had been going for monitoring ultrasounds every 6 months or so. However we need a new doctor now -- what kind of specialist can/should we be looking for? [more inside]

A couple of years ago, I received general anesthesia for a quick surgical procedure. Before losing consciousness, I was aware of a feeling of liberation. What was the drug given to me? [more inside]
I have to articulate my desire to become a physician, and I'm having trouble explicitly stating my motivations. I work in a hospital and have been shadowing doctors, so I know that they essentially use their understanding of medical science to make diagnoses and come up with a treatment plans. However, I'm curious to know how the "calling" differs between people who want to become physicians, and people who want to become RNs. [more inside]
For the last few years I've been going to the Women's Clinic and PP for my routine exams, BC, etc. as needed but it's time to find a regular OB/GYN. I also need to replace my retired GP. Please refer me to your awesome doctors located in the Santa Monica/Venice/MDR/WLA area! [more inside]
Approximately two weeks ago (I think) I was out in the woods and was possibly bitten by something on the knuckle of my ring finger. The next day the spot ached in the joint, but no other symptoms. Over the last few days, though, the pain has returned and worsened, and now it appears to be getting puffy. Should I go see a medical professional about this? [more inside]
I got a small bill for lab work done as part of a routine annual exam. The entire amount should have been covered in full. At what point do I give up and just pay the bill? [more inside]
I'm looking for a concierge medical practice. People in this question, as well as on Yelp and other review sites, have raved about One Medical. Unfortunately, the nearest One Medical is in Berkeley and no way am I going to drive that far to see my doctor. I'd like suggestions on a good concierge doctor or medical practice in Central Contra Costa County. [more inside]
I am in Washington DC, not feeling well and would like to see a doctor. The problem: I don't have a doctor. How do I go about getting one? [more inside]
I recently went to a functional medicine doctor. The administrative staff has been negligent. She misdiagnosed me and recommended unnecessary testing. Not to mention the cost! I don't think I should go back, but should I write a letter? Details behind the cut. [more inside]
I don't really trust that I'm getting a good eye exam from my optometrist (chain store) and felt the same about the previous two (local practice and another chain store.) Given that I'm not a doctor myself, how do I find/get a better eye exam or gain a reasonable confidence I'm getting a good exam in my current situation?
I just started seeing a rheumatologist for my ankylosing spondylitis. She suggested a long term NSAID rather than just taking ibuprofen as I had been doing. She prescribed two options: diclofenac, which I tried, and Indomethacin, which I have not yet tried. I have questions about the new drug before I start it but my rheumatologist won't be able to respond for about a month. Should I see my family doctor or a pharmacist with questions about the new meds? Are either likely to be really familiar with a random medication?
How do I ask my new doctor for tranquilizers without seeming like a crazy drug addict? [more inside]
I'm anemic and have PCOS, and have been feeling increasingly crappy. I have been taking over the counter iron that includes zinc, vitamin c, and B vitamins (FabIron) for over a year; clearly, it is not enough. I have a doctor's appointment first thing tomorrow morning. What else should I ask my doctor, or ask her to do? [more inside]
YANMD. You may not even be a doctor. I was out on a 10 mile run this morning; at the end of the run, I realized that I had blood dripping down both my legs, stemming from a mole on my inner left thigh. [more inside]
I was among the unfortunate many who was not able to attend to Doctor Who panel at SDCC 2013 and thus did not have the pleasure of viewing the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Trailer; I know Steven Moffat made it abundantly clear that he did not want to see anyone leaking the trailer, so I'm not really expecting to see any pirated versions. I guess the question I'm trying to ask is: When will the BBC allow the trailer to be public?
Maybe ten years ago at a Green Festival in SF my mom and I saw a documentary about a small town doctor, probably in upstate New York or some other part of New England, who gave safe abortions to women even though they were illegal, starting in at least the 1950s. My mom thinks the title was "Thank You, Doctor ------", but can't remember the name. This is bugging her, as she actually had an abortion with him back then. He saved hundreds of lives, but of course when I google search I end up with lots of anti-abortion propaganda. Can someone more skilled with searching help us out? It was a very small production. Thanks!
Just called a friend with a severed tendon to see how his visit to the doctor went and he was still in the exam room. He said he had to get off the phone because there was a sign saying "no cell phones in exam room." I'm wondering why the sign is there. He was alone at the time, waiting for the doctor to return. Is the rule due to an equipment issue, or is it because of doctors being annoyed by rude patients talking on cell phones while the doctor is examining them, or something else?
*It* hurts at the end. I already seen two different doctors (GPs) twice each, but don't feel like I am getting answer I need. I'm looking for suggestions for what I should ask/tell my doctor in a couple days. YANMD, etc. Details follow. [more inside]
Short version: Outpatient facility acknowledges they owe me money but has not paid up. Their eternal answer is "The check will go out Thursday. We know it was supposed to go out last Thursday but it will go out this Thursday. Promise!" It's been over a month now, and I've called several times a week. How do I get my money back? More details inside if you want them. [more inside]

Obese and diabetic is no way to go through life son, so I want/need/have to exercise. Problem: Most entities (exercise programs, gyms, trainers) want a doctor's note from me to prove I won't drop fucking dead while attempting to exercise. My colorectal surgeon has only done a proctoscopy and says the blood in my stool is coming from my hemorrhoids. I've been experiencing sore knees after running and I think it's time for me to seek some professional help. Where should I go for help? I was going to make an appointment with my primary care doctor, but I'm afraid he's not going to be able to help me much. Should I go straight to a physical therapist or a sports doctor or orthopedist? I just want to be able to run without pain again. [more inside]

So I've been watching 1970's Doctor Who on the BBC iPlayer. The Tom Baker section lists stories available on the iPlayer as 1,2,3,4,5,9,10,12,13,14 (this is nothing to do with any other story numbering). Is there a trick to getting the missing numbers (6,7,8,11), or did they just err? And does anyone know if there is more classic Who likely to be added in the future?
