Tiny car, big furniture?

I live alone in West LA. I have a tiny car with no trunk to speak of. I would like to start shopping for some used furniture, but it won't fit into my not-trunk. Everywhere else I've lived, I've known friends or family who have access to pickups, SUVs, etc and coordinated with them when I needed furniture moved. Not here. How do people manage this single-handed? [more inside]

"Not technically supposed to do this, but..." scam?

The other day I had a new washing machine installed, a completely normal setup. I had paid for installation and new parts as well. Upon delivery, one of the workers looked at the existing completely normal hookup, sighed, and said, "Oh, this is going to be tricky. We're not supposed to install something this complicated. We can try it to save you the cost of a plumber, but this is really something a plumber should be doing. But we'll try." [more inside]

Not Harry and David

Where in the Houston, TX area can my sister call to have a food and wine gift basket delivered to a new single mom? She is looking to avoid a basket of almonds and spicy mustard. She is hoping more for fruit, crackers, wine, and possibly prepared foods that could be frozen. She is in New York, so again, delivery: 75-100$ range.

My older sister is having a baby in a couple of months. She has decided she wants the entire immediate family (parents/siblings/sibling spouses) in there. I really would rather not go, but I also don't know if I'm being unreasonable or selfish, and I don't want to push back if this is something that I need to just say, "Okay, you're the one pushing the baby out, you call the shots." Order from an Amazon wishlist and have it delivered to their address

I just tried to purchase something for someone from their Amazon.co.uk wishlist. I pressed the ‘Add to Basket’ button next to the item, which then turned into a ‘Proceed to Checkout’ button. I pressed this, then it asked me to log in, then it prompted me to select a delivery address. Which is stupid, as I clearly want it to be delivered to whatever address the person who set up the wishlist specified. But that’s not an option. What am I doing wrong here?

Cheap Door to Door Delivery of Flyers

So I am going to use a paper flyer with the info about the meeting. I need to deliver these to about 150 homes. I can walk around and do it myself. But I was wondering if there were any sources out there to crowdsource this kind of job. What would be a reasonable payment? I need the hive mind to help me.

Food Delivery for Senior Citizen

I would like to start some kind of "healthy" food delivery service for my mom in NC - near Jacksonville. She is 82 and lives by herslef and doesn't always eat the best. She has some friends around that will take her to the store and she can cook for herself but she really tends to be very frugal and not spend alot on food. Because of that I don't think she really eats the best. She was just in the hospital for a very bad bout of stomach virus (maybe complicated by food poisioning - not sure). She is coming home today and will have someone going to the grocery store for her to do the basic shopping. I would love to find a business that I could order from - either locally or nationally that I could supplement her with some healthy pre-prepared or almost pre-prepared foods. Not worried about cost but we don't need lobster from Maine either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lowcarb or carb loading childbirth, gestational diabetes edition

Managing gestational diabetes fairly well by eating paleo/low carb and injecting insulin (tiny dose, rarely) when anticipating higher glucose levels. Now I read pregnant women should load carbs shortly before and during the childbirth itself. I'd like to avoid both a carb crash and hypoglycemia during delivery. I also worry about the baby being hypoglycemic if I have high glucose levels during delivery and I'm getting conflicting info (yes, danger v. no, too short a time to impact baby). So, what to eat leading up to and during delivery?

Delivering French canapés to a nursing home in Austin, TX: possible?

Through work, I have struck up a correspondence with an extraordinary translator and writer located in Austin, TX. Advancing age, declining health, and (from what I have gleaned) lack of local family members have conspired to put him in a nursing home. He's mentioned a craving for better food -- specifically for French canapés. Is there any French bistro or gourmet market in Austin where I could arrange for some beautifully prepared treats to be delivered to him?

Shopping Cart without checkout

I have a client that has a scooter food delivery service. What I need to do is build menus for each of the restaurants, have the user be able to add items to a cart and then get a total. The actual transaction will occur at the customers home upon delivery so there's no need to deal with payments online. I'd like to use something open source and I've been looking at X-cart but I'd like to consider as many options as possible. WP/WooCommerce doesn't work because it requires a payment gateway and real time transaction (as far as I can tell) I'd love some recommendations. Thanks.
