I have over 1000 CDs and am considering transferring them to sleeves in binders (preferable) or drawers (less preferable). Please recommend a good vendor for such a storage system. [more inside]
AV experts, can you help me? I set up my current home entertainment system 11 years ago, and it's worked well for me. Now it is failing, and consumer electronics have moved on. I can't just replace the failing component with a new one because it is not being manufactured any longer, and I only need some parts of it. I'm having trouble integrating new things into the old setup. I need to upgrade/reconfigure my AV, and possibly wireless. Details inside. [more inside]
Seems like a pretty easy to navigate digital video solution: Drobo with digital video files, USB to Bluray player, HDMI to TV. Can you suggest a specific model Bluray player that will accommodate this use? I REALLY need to shift my DVD collection to some kind of HDD-based (I think?) system, but ease of navigation and simplicity of set-up is very important to me. If I am barking up the wrong tree, please suggest a more appropriate solution.
I've got various video clips in multiple formats (mp4 and avi), and want to put them into one movie that would play on a standard DVD player, ideally with a menu screen of some sort. I am in the UK, and using a windows PC. I'd ideally like to do this for free. [more inside]

I'm in London and would like my father, who lives in the U.S., to see the film A Room and a Half. As far as I can determine, A Room and a Half has never been released on DVD in the U.S. The only workaround I've thought of has been to send him the British DVD and a multi-region player, but is there a more elegant solution? I'm trying to play Region 2 European DVDs on my US DVD player. I know you can hack DVD players to be region-free, and have read the previous threads on AskMeFi from several years ago, but I cannot find a hack for my specific Sony player, model DVP-SR210P. Any tips appreciated!
I've got a TV that I can only watch DVDs on (no Netflix, no cable). I enjoy watching movies and would love some suggestions of movies that are always enjoyable to watch. [more inside]
I ripped a bunch of my DVDs to my Mac so that I could put the cases in storage. Currently, the files sit on my hard drive on my Mac Pro, and when I want to watch something, I copy the relevant file to a USB stick and walk it upstairs to the TV, where the Blu Ray player has a USB input. Is there an easier way to get these files onto my TV (and ideally, iPads/iPhones) than walking the file around the house? We're an all-Mac household. [more inside]
Lots of home movies, some are super-8, some are tapes, some are mini-DV tapes, etc. I'd like to get them put on DVDs that I can then easily edit. I'm in Manhattan, NYC. thanks (oh a long time ago there was another question like this and somebody suggested a mail-order place, but I don't feel comfortable sending off my precious home movies from the 1950s etc. away)
Ripped DVDs look juddery. I converted them to mp4 and smooth pans of the camera seem to "stick" multiple times a second. Is this a mismatch between the mp4 fps and the tv's? If so, how can I fix it? [more inside]
I'd like a Win7x64-compatible tool that can dump the structure of a DVD: like, a list of the disc's titles/chapters with their durations, each title's native resolution/display aspect radio, details on the audio tracks each title has, etc. If it can report on details like the menu/program hierarchy—what titles/other menus are accessible through each menu, which titles are set for mandatory playback—and where playback goes next when a specific title ends, so much the better, but that's not required. My brother's only means of listening to MP3s is with a DVD player. I've many spare DVD-Rs and would like to put them to use by making him DVD MP3 discs to listen to when we get together. [more inside]

Calling all movie buffs -- I saw a trailer for a movie, but I have forgotten its name. It was European, probably French. It was about a married couple. They were both white. The man had brown hair and was heavier set, but I might be wrong. The woman had brown hair and was normal build. The man was older than the woman, but I might be wrong. [more inside]

I am looking for an external, portable DVD drive that plugs into a TV (via USB would be most convenient) and functions like a standard DVD player, while also connecting to a laptop to play CDs/install software. I can only envisage using the drive to watch DVDs on my TV, rip CDs and install software, so the ability to write to disk is not important. [more inside]

Hi Guys, I don't currently own any series of space 1999 and would like to purchase the series. After a check on the usual suspects - Amazon/E bay, I notice that there are several sets to purchase. I'm slightly confused which REGION 2 DVD set I should buy. Which has the better Content/transfer/extra's etc. Any advice, gratefully received.

I bought a Groupon for a month at a local kickboxing place and enjoyed it, but alas, joining apparently involves a year-long commitment at $120/month. In the interest of continuing to get into better shape while not racking up a massive bill, what DVDs would MeFis recommend? I can potentially do partner drills with my husband, or use the reflex bag we have as a target. Heavy bag work is probably out for space/structural reasons. (If it matters, I am in decent cardio shape but definitely don't have much in the way of upper body strength - I can maybe do 3-5 full pushups before I have to switch to my knees.)
My computer won't play a dvd using Cyberlink PowerDVD which seems to be my only option in Windows 8. I've tried turning the computer off and on again, using a different dvd, updating the program itself and the graphics driver and nothing has helped. When I put a DVD in the drive the drive makes noise, PowerDVD automatically starts, and the program displays the disc name at the top of the window. So, the program in starting up and recognizes the DVD. However, the DVD won't play and I have to forcibly shut down the program as it gets stuck. Ideas? I've also tried right-clicking on the DVD icon to get to the "Open With" command and use another player but that doesn't seem to be an option in Windows 8. Thanks!
I have a number of ripped DVDs that maintain the original DVD file structure. VLC can play them fine. So can built in DVD players. I like Plex for the way it catalogs and organizes the files for me, but it never played that structure back very well, and in newer released versions it isn't even trying to play it any longer. Is there something with same cataloging features of Plex that can seamlessly pass the file to VLC or some other program for play back? Solutions for Mac and/or Windows are welcome. Extra credit if there is a client/server implementation that could actually play these files through something like Roku.
I have a Panasonic Blu-ray player. It is probably 5-6 years old. Lately I notice the picture quality on some older standard DVDs (Six feet under season 1 for example) don't look good. They either look grainy/pixelated/not crisp. The other problem that I have is that Blu-rays take foreeeeeeever to load. The new season of Mad Men must take 5 minutes at least. It does look great once it gets started. I am not an overly tech savvy person. I don't know if I need to update firmware (or how to do it for that matter). I would rather have something that either doesn't require it or does it automatically. I do have a brand new Samsung smart hd tv. I am using HDMI cables. Is there a way/is it worth updating or trying to "fix" It seems that players are so inexpensive that perhaps I should just purchase a new one. Would this solve the problem? Do todays units update themselves like I believe that my tv does? I see that some come with wi-fi included. Some are smart. I don't know what the advantage to those features are. I don't care about 3D. Is HDMI still the standard? Would it be advantageous to stick with Samsung? Thank you in advance

I have a shipload of DVDs that are continually getting scratched. I want to set up a server with lots of DVDs so the kids can play them from the server rather than from the media. Stipulating that I would only do this if it were legal in my jurisdiction, what setup will:
- Allow me to store DVDs intermittently with the minimum amount of key clicks;
- Let my kids play DVDs with the least amount of parental intervention on a Sunday morning;
- Preferably work without an Internet connection, because WiFi is pretty bad at that end of the house - but if it makes adding DVDs easier I'll work something out.

I have an iMac and Toast 10 Titanium. I have several Video TS folders, some are movies, others exercise vids. How can I add two movies (2 existing Video TS folders) from my collection and either a)keep their menus intact, or b)have a menu where I can choose either movie and have whatever chapters Toast decides? I prefer option a) because some are fitness dvds that have exact breaks to start a new warmup whereas my movies, I don't really care where the chapters are inserted. I have looked online and there is such a wealth of opinions, some old links requiring another software like DVD2OneX or something else. Thanks in advance.
So I recently converted a vhs of my parents' wedding from dvd format. But now I want to have a backup copy on my PC so I put the DVD in and launched handbrake and convert to mp4. It works... sort of... Except that handbrake only saved the first 42 minutes of the video while there is more see on the DVD. [more inside]

When I watch a movie on my TV, the audio is very LOUD and the dialogue is often quiet. I have to turn up the volume--way up--to hear dialogue and then BAM! An action scene with lots of explosions and heavy music forces me to turn it way down. The constant switching drives me nuts! [more inside]
I know the TV series The Wonder Years will never be released on DVD due to the substantial music rights issues. Even the versions available for streaming on Amazon and Netflix are altered, ie. Please flood me with suggestions. I'm a noob at this.
