Recently, I am finding myself with a significant amount of drive time. I have many audio books I have downloaded from amazon which use the audible proprietary .aax file. They play in iTunes but I need to put them on a jump drive so that my MicroSoft sync system in my car will recognize them and allow me to listen. I could care less about the DRM, sharing or any of that business. I just want to be able to use the files outside of my Mac. They are too long to burn to a CD
I have searched the web with no satisfaction. Any answers, oh wise mefi?
I have a kindle and a kobo. I am trying to switch permanently from my kindle to my kobo which I will make my new ereader because it has many other options as well ( the tablet offerings). I have downloaded the epub mobi,az, etc. converter and epub master. I need to remove the kindle DRM to be able to move the kindle books to the kobo. Everything I read makes it seem so straightforward yet, there must be one thing I am missing. I have searched mefi for answers but am not finding anything that helps. Within my reading, it appears that using those programs you add the file and it converts it, super easy. Mine are not converting. [more inside]
So, a patron at my library wants to read our e-books on his old ipad. The ipad can only be uppgraded to ios 5.1.1 because it's from the first generation. The app we usually recommend (bluefire reader, I´m in Sweden so no overdrive-model here) requires ios 6.0. The app must be able to manage epub with DRM. Does anyone know if such an app exists?

I'm selling my mid-2010 iMac on eBay. In the ad, I want to say that I'll include a copy of Mountain Lion on a USB stick so the buyer can install the OS once they take possession of the computer. Business idea feedback. Scanning copyright books into PDF format and lending those books out for a weekly rental fee, similar to what is being done with DVD movie download rentals. A DRM enabled self-destruct system, such as Adobe Digital Editions
, would provide the technical framework. Since libraries lend books, why not lend a digital copy of the book. One digital copy out on loan for every paper copy kept in stock. Legal, or publishers nightmare?
