I've got
this Dewalt miter saw, and it seems to be slightly out of square -- neither the 0ยบ miter or bevel is exactly square, at least with the door casing I've been cutting.
Does anyone have any tips (or links to good resources) on how to square up this sort of saw?
For what it's worth, I think I've figured out how to adjust the indicators & scale on the saw, so I'm not looking for advice on how to adjust this particular saw. Instead, I need help figuring out how to determine which direction -- and to what degree -- I need to move the scale to square it up. Advice on how to cut and match a board to test the square is just the sort of help I need.

I'm looking for good books and blogs on furniture building and other diy home improvement projects
for apartment dwellers. I like building things, and am interested in making my own furniture, but I'd like to use a book that's geared toward small spaces and spaces where one can't actually make "built-ins" but can replicate the look.

What is
the book on basic carpentry and furniture-making techniques? I have started to pick up DIY furniture making as a hobby, but I don't know any of the basics, like how to make joints and kerfed edges, how to cut plywood without splintering, which tools and materials to use and how, and so on. It should be a reference/how-to book with lots of pictures. When dealing with obscure hobbies there often exists a legendary out-of-print, hard-to-find tome published the 1970s that everyone in the field has and cherishes, like
this one (which I have), but which one is it?

I have a bunch of wooden casing moldings around the interior doors of our Washington, DC home, and over the past 75 to 100 years, they've taken quite a beating. I'd love to slowly replace the worst of them with identical moldings, but despite a pretty exhaustive search on my own, I can't find anyone who still carries anything with the same profile. Does anyone have any tips for molding manufacturers/sellers that have good variety, especially of moldings that are accurate to the turn-of-the-century period?

Hi all. Does anyone know of a good place to buy furniture kits? What I mean is unassembled, unfinished furniture, preferably shipped to your door. In particular I am looking for a "breakfast bar" or "kitchen island." Is there a store like this?
