If I take this gasket out, will my shower fall apart?

Our one-person shower stall leaks a bit. It has this one-piece rubbery gasket thing along the outside of the glass that doesn't look like it's doing a very good job - maybe it was good when first installed, but now it's coming out from the corners. I want to rip out the gasket and just caulk it, but I'm not sure if the gasket is important for keeping the glass in place. What do you think?

What's the plumber going to find in my shower?

One shower in our two-bath ranch house backs up whenever we use the other shower, and then drains exceedingly slowly. Tell me what kind of thing this is that I don't know how to do. [more inside]

Help me construct a levee between the Shower Zone and the Toilet Zone

I am renting an apartment with what I consider to be a relatively simple bathroom. While the walls and floor are tiled, there is no barrier separating the shower from the sink and toilet. Apparently the correct terminology for this is a "wetroom". And it does get very wet. I would like to be able to go to the toilet without wading through a wet toilet floor, so I need to jimmy up a simple, effective, hygienic solution. [more inside]

Upgrading my shower head and shower curtain rod

My shower (in a rental apartment) needs help in two ways. 1) I need to find a way to get the curtain farther out, with the complicating factor that the curtain is on an L-shaped rod (similar to this one). 2) My shower head puts out a piddly amount of water. I need one that will actually use the full water pressure available, and which is on a hose. Mefites, what do you recommend? [more inside]

Short showers (in height)

DIY bathroom remodel: I'm looking for small, and especially short, inexpensive, off-the-shelf shower options. Do you know where to find showers sorted by size? Do you know where to find oddly-sized home products? Do you have obscure and wonderful knowledge about shower stall options? [more inside]

Help id the manufacturer of this c.1963 shower cold water valve stem!

We have a drip drip drip in the shower and had the plumber look at it when he came to service the furnace. Unfortunately it's not just the gasket; the actual valve stem is broken. House was built in 1963 and length of stem is ~3.25" (pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vector_irony/) [more inside]

Bathroom DIY Filter: Tiling our one full bathroom. Is it okay to do one wall of tile, cover it with plastic, and take a shower? It's really the only way I see of doing this and having a normal life in the process. Or we're gonna be some stinky people. [more inside]
