After a promising-looking month, my financial situation has tanked. I'm in my last night in the place I've been living (a weekly motel) and I'm not sure where I'll be this time tomorrow. I'm looking for advice as to emergency housing for one person in the Dallas area. [more inside]
I'm looking for phrases to use when you see someone who has a strong passion the appeal of which you just cannot understand--a passion that appears to be one of the things the person lives for, one of the things that gets them out of bed in the morning. (I'm looking for secular passions, not religious ones.) Funny is good but not required. [more inside]
Through a string of bad luck (losing my job, losing my health insurance, bit of a breakdown at the start of the summer), I'm looking at being homeless in a couple of days. There aren't many options out there for a single male. This is a last ditch effort to find resources in my area other than shelters. [more inside]
Hi, can anyone give me an approximate time scale of the shuttle service between the TRE Centreport Station and DFW Airport? If I've read it correctly on the airport's website, the shuttle leaves every 15-30 mins from Centreport, then I change at South Remote Parking for the shuttle to Terminal D, which leaves every 15 mins. But I can't find even a vague idea of how long these trips will take so I can decide which trains to catch. Thanks!

Last summer I finally finished Infinite Jest, and looking back on it changed my life in a good way. Recently, I bought a George Saunders collection after reading this glowing NYT profile of his work and it is starting to do the same thing in many ways. Can you suggest other authors in a similar vein whose fiction speaks to the reality of contemporary experience in a way that is both profound and suffused with kindness? I was recommended Richard Powers, and enjoyed the book of his that I read, but didn't make the same emotional connection that I did with Saunders & Wallace.
My book queue is empty, and my brain craves fiction! Could you please recommend some books? Dick, Stephen King, George Saunders, Joe Hill, and Raymond Chandler [more inside]

And so I found myself asking this for some sort of reassurance, which question would be fielded by AskMefi's language nerds with bewildering rapidity
In David Foster Wallace's A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again he uses the word "which" in a way that I found unusual - a usage that is described under heading three here. I think I'm fairly well read, but I can't remember ever having seen this before. I've been having (what I think are) migraines lately and I'm curious if I'm becoming linguistically befuddled, or if this is just an obscure or archaic usage. Examples after the jump. [more inside]

Vegan airport/airline dining - connect and lunch in Dallas (DFO) or Chicago (ORD)? Somewhere else? How long to allow for a connection to assure we can eat at the restaurant you recommend? Oh God, this is shaping up to be one of the worst travel experiences of my life. I'm at the Hyatt Regency DFW until Friday, cannot expense the $40-one-way taxi costs into the city, and am a vegetarian.
