Help me get into the head of my halfling bard.

I'm about a year into my first-ever D&D campaign (first-ever tabletop RPG, in fact). I get together with four of my friends about once a month and we have a wonderful time. But I'm new to this, a little stiff and awkward, and I need help getting into character. [more inside]

Looking for math and science 'jokes' to slip into a D&D adventure!

I've got the chance to run a fun, whimsical sort of D&D adventure for a friend of mine. Yay! She's a bit of a science/math geek, and very fond of The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. So I was trying to think of fun, whimsical science and math jokes and references I could slip in to a sort of 'journey with sights along the way' in the style of TPT. [more inside]

Help me improve my worldbuilding

As my Pathfinder gaming group just came to an abrupt end due to lack of time on the GM's end (an anthropologist who created a truly AWESOME world), I'm getting the itch to step up and create my own world to possibly GM through a campaign in the future. However, the spirit is willing, but the flesh (or mind?) is weak. I'd like some tips on reading material (either direct how-to stuff or fantasy stories with particularly fantastic worldbuilding) that will deepen my resources on which to draw from in creating my own worlds. A bit more detail within. [more inside]

Looking for good quality non-Euro-centric RPG campaign settings

I recently received the Southlands campaign setting from a Kickstarter that I'd previously funded and forgotten about (seriously, Kickstarter is like sending your future self a present). Flipping through it brought back memories of reading Conan comics as a kid and reveling in how different it was from what I was used to, setting-wise. Most of the popular fantasy settings in fiction are all very Euro-centric. Help me find some good table top RPG settings that step outside this mold. More within. [more inside]

Simplifying D&D style role playing rules for use without dice

So for "reasons", I have recently become interested in the idea of simplifying D&D rules that would be optimizing the available resources for play in your average jail. Which is to say, paper and pen, playing card deck, like maybe one of these things, a couple odd Scrabble tiles, and nothing else. Would want to retain a D&D style of playing the odds, so trying to avoid anything like pure storytelling rulesets. Squashing a lot of stuff out like constitution checks, etc since each session could typically only be about 90 minutes tops.

Whole-disk imaging under Windows

What is the best open-source method for imaging an entire external hard drive, and then mounting the resulting image as a read-only drive under Windows? The drive in question is an external USB FAT32 hard drive with two partitions. Is there a robust Win32 dd alternative? It would also be nice to be able to open the image under VMWare.

Rune priest ability tracker?

Nerd alert: I'm playing a new rune priest in D&D. The class has tons of active and passive area effects to keep track of, which makes it both fun and challenging. Does anyone know of a worksheet I can use to make this easier? Something that I could glance at quickly to see what effects are active. I can certainly write one myself, but I'd like to save time if possible. Thanks!

Cool storylines involving Eberron's industries/politics/economic disparities?

Eberron veterans! Help a DM (new to Eberron, not to DMing) out. I'm looking for intriguing plot hooks that specifically exploit two of the setting's distinctive characteristics: the treatment of magic as everyday technology, and the huge rich/poor gap (i.e., the extent to which the dragonmarked houses dominate).
