I am looking for some steady, fast, balls to the wallish running music as I'm sick of my current rotation. [more inside]
I love dancing to 80s (and 90s) music, but with Culture Club now closed, I'm not sure where to go in New York City. Are there any new dance places that are devoted to 80s/90s music, or that have "80s nights"? Thanks!
What are your favourite dance scenes from the movies? Stuff that makes your jaw drop when you see it, because of the skill, technical excellence or the cleverness of the choreography. Scenes that give you renewed joy every time you watch them. [more inside]
I recently started watching the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and really enjoyed the homage to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, "Settle for Me." Please help me find more like this--contemporary (within the last couple of decades or so) song and dance numbers that pay deliberate tribute to this style. [more inside]
Not too long ago I saw a production of West Side Story and as you might expect, the choreography was similar to what was in the film, what the other revivals have done, etc. I presume that it was being true to the original choreography as well, but now I'm very curious about how dance/choreography is preserved and passed on. How is it generally done? I assume that film/video recordings preserves a lot of choreography/dance, but what what was done before film and video recordings? [more inside]
Ok, "hack" seems like a gross word for dancing. But someone said, make eye contact with your dance partner and track their head. And it really helped... [more inside]
I'm in need of some new additions to my kitchen dancing playlists. Who should I be listening to? [more inside]

I destroyed a finger in a way that is permanent & painful (details inside). I think even partnered dance might be impossible because the way my hand would be held might hurt. While I'm looking for non-partnered dance classes that fit my schedule (way harder than I thought!), are there any other fitness activities I could learn that would result in a skill akin to dance, rock climbing, or martial arts? [more inside]
Where in NYC can I dance to nu-disco, electro funk, French house, etc...? Are there specific DJs I can follow? [more inside]
I love large, public street parties for New Year's Eve. Where can I find one in the USA? [more inside]
I know all the lyrics to a song, but I can't find it, or find out who performed it. Searching for "I can find a four leaf clover" gets too many results about trying to do the actual thing, and not about the song. Or about another very well-known four leaf clover song. [more inside]
Looking for a free/low cost, metro accessible space in MD/DC for a small group of dancers to practice on an impromptu basis in the evenings during the week. [more inside]
I'd like to watch more music videos showing dancers performing on stark, monochromatic, ultra-clean sets like those in Taylor Swift's Shake It Off so I can see what the dancers are doing. [more inside]
I host parties sometimes and would like to play a mix that my guests will love dancing to. I am looking for an app/service that plays DJ-mixed music similar to what I often hear in dance clubs, i.e.: (1) A mix mainly of pop, hip-hop, R&B, dance, and EDM; (2) Many chart-toppers & crowd pleasers; (3) Mostly recent songs but maybe some old ones too; (4) Song transitions are professionally done (mixed into each other to keep the energy level high, and match in BPM) [more inside]
Are there any good videos of "floating" grand jetés on YouTube (or other online streaming video sites)? [more inside]
I am familiar with Chubby Checker doing "The Pony", and of course with Psy doing "Gangnam Style", but are there other equine popular dances out there? Dances in which a performer mimics a horse, a rider, or both?

Looking for recommendations for a great dance spot for a wedding party in Monterey County. [more inside]
I'm going to a contra dance this weekend. The hall has wooden floors. I'd prefer to not buy specialized shoes until I decide if I like it. What is a passable kind of women's street shoe that will work well for this?
I need songs with specific lyrics which I can play for my daughter which represent antiquated technology that she has no real understanding of. [more inside]
So, at the relatively advanced age of 36, I've realized I really enjoy (several subgenres of) electronic dance music, and that I also really enjoy dancing now that I'm actually bothering to learn. Where can a non-drug-using, generally introverted (but not shy) person go to indulge this newfound enthusiasm? [more inside]
Once upon a time I heard a track which included a clip of a child's voice saying "when I grow up, I wanna be a DJ". The sample popped into my head again last night and I am trying to figure out where it came from. I think maybe Skrillex or somebody like that sampled it recently, but it came from something older. Does this sound familiar? What am I thinking of?
Looking for suggestions in NYC: we need some dance instruction for our "first song" at our wedding. [more inside]
I just took a beginner group tango class and I really liked it! I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to do a private lesson with the same instructor from the first class, or just take more group classes for now, or even shop around a bit with other schools before spending the extra money. [more inside]
This weekend, I heard a great song while in a gas station shop. I REALLY enjoyed it, but not being a regular pop listener, I don't know where to even start to look for it. [more inside]
I've been clumsy, non-athletic, rhythmless my entire life. I'd like that to change. [more inside]
Recently moved to Portland, OR. I'm an intermediate ballroom/Latin/swing dancer and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of choices here when I google. In particular I want a nice safe place where I won't get groped or hit on a lot...I'm 30 and a reasonably attractive woman. Where I used to live I basically gave up on social dancing because I couldn't go anywhere without getting groped, and stuck to my Arthur Murray like glue. Any dancers out there that can help me out? I have an excellent gym mix. Unfortunately, I've listened to it approximately one million times since the fall and it is slowly, inexorably ceasing to motivate me. I'm helping find music for a Viking-themed party that would be both fitting and fun to dance to. I've got some viking metal, but that is more head-banging than the booty-shaking I am hoping for. What is the Gogol Bordello of viking bands, or the electroswing of viking music?
Looking for couple of music/dance videos that I've lost on the internet. Please help! [more inside]
Last night I came across the Brotherhood of Man musical number performed on the Drew Carey show, and realized it was the perfect video to snap me right out of a funk and make me want to dance around the house (particularly once the full ensemble gets going around 2 minutes in.) Now I want more! I'm looking for more videos of big, bombastic musical numbers that can't help but give me thrills and cheer me up with great dancing. The kind of song that gets even the most cynical person tapping their toes and smiling. Anything Goes is a great example of what I'm thinking of - I also can't resist a giant tap number. Think over the top with jazz hands. Everything a person who hates musical theater can't stand. Don't worry if they seem too obvious - I've only started enjoying musical theater a few years ago, so I've got plenty of catching up to do.
I thought a somatic reflection was something like when you looked at an image of someone working out and your heart rate accelerated as you thought about doing what the person was doing. [more inside]
I am looking for a very specific fabric for a dance costume. It's a stretch velvet in a zebra or tiger stripe print. Problem is all of the ones that I have been able to locate have had thick super dark stripes and I do not want that. My apologies for the horrible quality of the photo.
I have liked this since 2005, and I think it's amazing, but I want to know all the details behind the main character, and the battles, when and where exactly was this? (seems like they're using osaka dialect) what exactly is going on? Link.

Recently I've found myself exceptionally moved by a couple of documentaries about famous choreographers, namely Life in Movement about Tanja Liedtke, and Pina about Pina Bausch. I know very very little about choreography or choreographers (or really dance in general), and would really love to dive into this area, so please recommend me the best books, podcasts, documentaries, magazines, websites, etc. to help me learn more - basically anything informative and/or inspirational. I'm looking for music videos that feature amazing dancing in any style. Must be kid friendly/G rated, fun and engaging. [more inside]
I'm nearing the two-year anniversary of my dad's death, and a close friend just lost a family member in a tragic accident. As I remember my dad and support my friend, I am craving some sort of movement-based grief ritual - an active dance, set of motions, physical practice, to do with others, potentially at my (UU) church.
