We have a couch we bought at a large reputable furniture store for about $600-700, about five years ago. It is so sunken at this point that it is difficult to get up out of. Help! [more inside]

We are buying a home and are under contract. We really like the seller's couch. Would it be too tacky to email them and ask if they have any interest in selling it to us? It is a huge sectional which is exactly what we are looking for and fits the space nicely. They are moving themselves, so I'm sure it would be a hassle to move, but hey, they might love their couch too! I was going to just ask them if they bought it in town, but then I thought maybe they would consider selling it so they don't have to move it.
Is that just bad etiquette?

We have cats and, unfortunately, love them very much. We keep their nails clipped and have lots of scratching posts, but they still sink their little claws into everything. Are there fabrics, either for rugs or couches, that you've found work better with cat claws? I was told that things like microsuede provide less purchase for their little pointy claws -- is this true? What fabrics should we avoid?

Wizards of Hive,
Before I buy that 90" couch from a friend, how can I make sure I'll be able to get it up my L-shaped stairs? Sure, there are a lot of variables. But is there a tool or methodology for figuring this out ahead of time (presuming I know the depth and height of the couch too)? I don't think I have the cardboard to build a mockup.
This couch is 50 miles away and can't be returned. Thanks!

We just bought a house and got a new couch about 4 months ago. The couch is a huge sectional, cloth, and cream colored. I tried to warn my husband that cream color was a bad idea (even though I love the way it looks) because we have pets, but it was such a great deal that we just decided to get it. He also kept telling me "we can always get it recovered if we need to".
Well, I don't think he realized that it would most likely cost thousands to have it recovered since it is so big. And we didn't know how big of a mistake the fabric was. [more inside]

I need to buy a couch, and for it to be comfy, decent-looking, relatively inexpensive, and bedbug free. I have an idea of the dimensions that my place can accomodate, but almost nothing else. Right now, I don't even know, what I don't know. How do?! [more inside]

One of the rubber-band
cushion supports broke on my Mid Century Modern couch.
I would ideally replace all of the bands, since they are all showing signs of their 50-60 years of use. I was hoping someone would have some magical source for replacement parts.

So, I have a laptop with an HDMI port, a big ass HDTV, a Steam account and a comfy sofa and would like to bring all these things together. What peripherals do people use to do PC gaming on their TV? Some type of console-esque controller? A wireless keyboard and mouse? What do you balance your keyboard on? Trackball mouse?
Please enlighten me with describing your setup. Bonus points for avoiding RSI.

We have a dream... to rearrange our media room so that the couch is not against the wall. The problem? It's this sofa
, and the cushions do fall off after a few minutes of relaxed sitting, despite being weighted. We considered putting a heavy piece of furniture behind it, but that's not ideal as it takes up all the wonderful space we are trying to get back. Can you help us add a back to our couch? [more inside]

I just moved into a dream wonderful "garden apartment" in a brownstone. The only downside is that it has an entryway that forces you to make a u-turn to get into the apartment. Normally, not a problem.
But we need to buy a couch. A regular sized, real, adult persons not-dormroom style nice couch. And there's no way anybody could possibly maneuver one into here.
Is there any places that sell couches that are nice but also can be partially disassembled? Even if just the arms could be taken off it would be great. [more inside]

We have a two-year old sofa that looks terrible and needs to be cleaned. The upholstery is 100% light-colored polyester that looks like linen. The problem is that any water leaves a very noticeable ring on the fabric. Although we're pretty good about keeping food and drinks off the couch, we have a very drippy-nosed greyhound who has left dozens of little drip marks all over the cushions. Cleaning with water and a wet rag only makes the problem worse. I also tried using Goddard's Dry Cleaning fluid (a solvent), which just left a whitish spot. Any suggestions? Would hiring a professional do the trick?
