Calling all chemists and haircare junkies: is it possible to add salicylic acid and/or ketoconazole into a shampoo, rather than buying off-the-shelf shampoos with these ingredients in them? If so, how do I do this? If not how do I prevent over-washed and dried out hair?

Help me understand hair care chemistry. When I look at the list of ingredients on bottles of conditioner, what ingredients should I avoid. I can't stand the 'waxy' feeling I get from some conditioners. My old favorite standby conditioner changed formulas recently and it now has the dreaded waxy ickiness. NOT looking for specific product recommendations, only for
ingredients to avoid or possibly ingredients to look for.

I have a new baby and taking a nice long shower is now a thing of the past. I've been using my husband's Pert Shampoo+Conditioner but it makes my hair feel dry and doesn't de-tangle well. Is there a combined shampoo+conditioner product that will actually make my hair feel nice after I use it? Bonus points for hypoallergenic or fragrance free.

Has anyone done a Killawatt (or similar) analysis of an
EcoTune Duet sound machine? I am trying to find average running costs for this. Our current white noise machine of choice is a fan that runs at 38 watts. I've priced the rotary fan motor-based
Marpac Sleepmate but at 13 watts max volume by Killawatt there just isn't enough delta between this and an actual fan.

Window mounted air conditioner had a burned-up blade on the plug.
New replacement plug gets hot at the same blade.
New plug needs to be wiggled or the blades spread to make electrical contact in the socket.
What's the problem here? Bad plug, bad socket or air conditioner pulling too much juice for either plug or socket?

I have a 2003 Jetta with around 75,000 miles. It is hot here, and I have been running the air conditioning nearly every day for the past month or two, and I have noticed some strange occurrences. First, if I am parked with the A/C running, even for a short amount of time, the car seems to vibrate rather forcefully. In addition, when I pull away from the parking spot, there is always a fairly large pool of water where my car was. Also, when I am driving fast, say 60-75 mph, and I change the speed of the A/C from high to low, there is a noticeable jerk in my acceleration. It is most unusual...

Last spring my husband and I noticed that a small puddle of water would form on the garage floor every time we used our central a/c for more than a few minutes. We had a local a/c guy come out and he told us the pan was leaking and needed to be replaced. He quoted us around $2,000 which I thought was extremely high considering he'd done the exact same job a year previously for our neighbor (who has the same model house and, incidentally, recommended this company) for $400.
