Can anyone recommend an optometrist in Columbus, Ohio? My husband needs glasses and has been putting it off for years. He would also like contact lenses. Can anyone recommend a good optometrist in Columbus, Ohio who also carries a good selection of frames? Is there anything in particular we should be looking for? He has VSP vision insurance, if that helps.

Can you help me track down this early 90s cartoon movie on vhs? I'm trying to remember an old cartoon movie. It's very vague in my mind but I will try to list everything I remember about it. All of this is really subject to my own recollection so take it all with a grain of salt and list anything that you might think connects to my "evidence"

I THINK it's called Captain Columbus. But Google has not given any leads on that name.

The movie starts with a faerie that lives on some sort of chandelier with the other faeries. She also has a big head on the cover of the movie, sort of square like.

There's also this worm or insect or other little creature with a pointy nose used for carving wood he loved to eat wood or whatever he and lived inside Columbus's globe on his ship. Him and the faerie had a relationship together. But they were the subplot of the story.

So Captain Columbus he had 3 ships and he was like a scientist and captain of a ship.

He was searching for this pyramid of gold and found it but somehow it collapses in the end and they all get away.

This cartoon was from the 90s, early to mid 90s. I was in like 3rd or 4th grade. I lent it to someone else and they never gave it back to me. I appreciate all the help and guesses I can get! Thanks!

Non-judgmental by rigorous therapist in Columbus, OH? I am trying to find a psychologist/therapist in Columbus that is non-judgmental about alternative lifestyles but is rigorous and intelligent. I need someone who will challenge me and not just placate me. I would strongly prefer if they took Anthem insurance or had a sliding scale..

We are traveling from Chicago to Columbus, OH next week and to keep things interesting we'll have our 15-month-old in the back seat. I'm wondering if people who have made this drive have advice in terms of routing, avoiding traffic tie-ups and stopping points. The little one travels well for the most part. The commute to day care is almost an hour each way, and we've taken him to Iowa a few times (5 hours each way). However, this is the first trip where we don't reasonably expect him to sleep for the great majority of the drive. Our thought was to leave just after lunch (his usual nap time), take an early dinner/get-out-and-run-around-a-bit break either at a rest stop or a local park, and continue on. My fear is that if we go through Indianapolis we'll hit it during rush hour and add significantly to our travel time. We'd like to get into Columbus at a reasonable hour as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

Gifts to represent ten cities for an anniversary.

Help me distill these ten cities/regions into a giftable essence: Boston, Maui, San Francisco, New Orleans, NYC/Hoboken, Ann Arbor, Toronto, Outer Banks NC, Central PA (Dutch Country), Columbus OH. This year marks our tenth wedding anniversary, and I would like to give my husband something that represents the ten cities/regions that mean the most to our relationship (other than where we make our home).

If you were to give one gift representing one of those regions, what would it be? If you are from one of those areas, what is it that you crave the most when you "think of home"? I'm looking for something meaningful as a gift, not just a symbol of the area (so for New Orleans, I'd lean more towards a good gumbo cookbook than I would some plastic Mardi Gras beads).

I have some ideas, but in some cases we spent only a memorable week there, no more, so I might be missing something really stellar and neat that shouldn't be missed, gift-wise. We lean more to locally owned companies than large well known chains, indie book and music stores more than sports teams, museums more than beaches, and are big foodies. We live in Pittsburgh, so items must be able to be purchased online and shipped within a 2 month period. I'd really like these to be symbols of ten great years with an amazing man, so I don't want to be shortsighted on ideas. I look forward to your suggestions! Thanks!

I may be moving to Columbus, Ohio, from New York. I'm wondering about intellectual/cultural life there. Please tell me what you know about Columbus to help me decide. I'm also interested in knowing more about mass transport, whether it is absolutely necessary to have a car, the possibility of bicycling, and which neighborhoods are good to live in (and which ones to avoid). Are there any good coffee houses I should know about?

I'll be in the Columbus, OH area this weekend visiting a friend and may have a few hours to myself... I am visiting a college friend who lives near Delaware (about a half hour north). She has to work from 4-about 10 p.m. and I will likely be alone during that time. I may just go to Polaris Mall to kill a few hours, but was wondering if anyone had any better ideas of somewhere to go/do solo nearby?

Help me, I want to be a corporate guinea pig! A friend of mine is headed to a city known for its preponderance of market testing (Columbus, OH), which got me thinking... are there any sites or blogs that could inform me as to chains undergoing market testing in particular regions of the country? I'd love to sample some of these wacky, soon-to-abandoned products of retail R&D departments everywhere... if only when I visit my friend in a few months. Any ideas as to how I can do this?

Can you help me locate editable vector street map of southeastern suburbs of Columbus, Ohio? Specifically something that I can open up in Adobe Illustrator, and change the typeface, colors, etc.
Also, that covers the areas of Reynoldsburg, Pickerington, and Canal Winchester.
There is some money in a budget to pay for the map, but not a lot.

Columbus, Ohio: need pedicure, yoga, and bar recommendations. I'm going to Columbus for a wedding this weekend. I am staying in the Arena area, on North High St. I'm looking for the following within walking distance:

*Yoga studio. Preferably vinyasa (not Bikram).
*Nail salon. Can be low-tech, as long as it's clean and does pedicures.
*Bar/pub. Place to catch up with an old friend. He lives there but is very new to the area. I'm not against younger people, but would prefer something other than the fraternity-house-extension college places.

Do these exist in this area? Thanks for your help!

Ear piercing in Columbus, Ohio. My mother and her best friend are in their mid fifties and have both decided they need ear piercings (my mom's first, her friend's second). Being home to OSU the area is rife with piercing and tattoo parlors, but I don't think that's so much what they're going for. The mall experience isn't what they want, either. Are there places to go with professionals that cater less to the extensively body-modded crowd than the places near campus? Do spas do this or anything?

(No offense met to any body-modded individuals out there. Some of my best friends... etc etc. I just have a conservative mother.)

Trying to find a weekday-evening or weekend creative writing class in Columbus, Ohio. I am trying to find a summer fiction writing class in Columbus Ohio that have class time in the evenings or weekends. I've already tried the OSU and CSCC websites, and all they have are day classes or distance learning. I know that one doesn't need a class to start writing, but I've always found the energy of an group of like-minded people an spur to my own work. So what's a working stiff who also happen to like writing to do in Columbus?

Sports bars in Columbus

Looking for a sports bar in Columbus, Ohio, at which to watch Friday's NCAA tournament action. I have some specific criteria. I'll be passing through Columbus today (Friday) and need a place to watch the tourney games. Please maximize points according to the following criteria:

100 points if they have HDTV
2 points for each TV they have
20 points if it's near the airport or Westerville, or in between
20 points if it will be easy to find a few seats at 7:00 on a Friday night.
Minus infinity points if they have HDTVs but don't actually have an HD signal. I hate watching a perfectly good HDTV go to waste with a standard signal. I'd rather not watch the tournament at all.

You don't actually have to tabulate the points, but your recommendations are appreciated.

I've been offered a job in Columbus, Ohio and I'm flying out this weekend to see the office, etc. Suggestions on a good place to rent an apartment if I take the job? (and anything else I should do while I'm out there?) I wouldn't mind living in a reasonably walkable area if that's even possible in Columbus. My office will be near the airport though in the Easton/Steltzer Road area which doesn't look very walkable.

There are a million apartments on Craigslist. I was thinking of either someplace in the city with a lot of walkable resources or something out a ways where there would be some dirt and trees... I'm not really a suburbs person, more of an either-or. (and my wife is the same way) We don't have kids, so schools etc are not part of the equation.

Where can I browse and purchase antique maps in Ohio, specifically Columbus? I'd like to get some topographic, geologic, or land-owner maps of Ohio or Indiana for my new apartment (maps of other places might be cool, too). Though eBay is nice, I'd really like to be able to go to a store and see the color intensity, size, and condition of a map before I buy it. I live close to Columbus but wouldn't mind taking a road trip to Cleveland or Cincinnati (or Pittsburgh, for that matter). Does anyone know if a store like this exists in the uncultured Midwest? Should I just go to a flea market?

Getting around in Ohio without a car.

I need help for a friend traveling to Athens, OH this week. Long story short- when he booked his flight from LA to OH, he chose Akron instead of Athens. d'oh! He just discovered this last night and he leaves in 2 days.

It is a three hour drive, so he can't count on his brother shuttling him around. Car rental is also out since he doesn't have a license. The Greyhound goes between them, but leave before his flight arrives on Day 1 of a four day trip, and he would need to ride back the day before, giving him only one solid day to visit. Amtrak was a similar circumstance. He looked up the cost of changing the flight or booking a hop from Akron to Columbus(a more manageable distance for a ride) and both were nearly $500, which he can't afford.

I don't know Ohio well enough to know if there is a Green Tortoise-type service or any other options that havn't occurred to us yet. Any mefiites have any ideas?

Why is Columbus not CLB?

Why is the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey team often abbreviated as "CBJ"? While ESPN.com uses CLS, and CBS SportsLine chooses CLB, most television tickers use CBJ, as does SportsCenter for all of its graphics, and many newspapers, too. I understand Colorado may already stake claim to COL, but I don't understand why there is no standard for Columbus, or why the team name would ever be used for an abbreviation over CLB or CLS.
