I'm teaching a senior college-level class on "the culture of the copy" in the Fall. I want to cover some of the same material as Cory Doctorow's current USC copyright class but it's a humanities/English class and I'd also like to broaden the discussion a little to include history and art/culture/literature. So far I've got the open source/free software basics (Cathedral and the Bazaar, etc) and Marcel Mauss's book on gift economies. [more inside]

I'm currently a senior undergrad planning on graduating in May. My majors are biology and history, but I'll be working in finance after graduation with a large firm in NYC (and I already have a job lined up). After meeting with an advisor this week, I realized that the "perspective classes" (classes outside my majors that are required for graduation) I had taken to complete the requirements for my bachelors of science in biology are different from those required for my bachelors of arts in history. Blogging in the classroom. I've decided to set-up a blog for my students this semester. This will be the place for their response papers, writing exercises and a few other tidbits. It needs to have access for 5-10 members, a very easy set-up, free-to-near-free pricing (although I would pay or find the dollars to fund if it was warranted), and very clear posting/linking instructions for the students. Advice on selecting a blogging system needed. [more inside]

I'm a 35 year old male and am smart, single and fit but find myself feeling like time is running out. Perhaps too smart; I have a high IQ, whatever that is worth, but am not a college graduate and I find I still have a bit of a complex about this despite having been gainfully white collar employed for most of my adult life. I never started college and wouldn't even know where to begin. I meet people easily and am told that I am good looking. I was 30 before I realized that I had coasted so far on charisma. With an opportunity to make a life change in the next year what should this American do? I work with a group of people that develop museum exhibits and I've spent a lot of time thinking about unusual interfaces and compelling non-traditional experiences. I've been deep in this for some time, but would be interested in the views of people not quite so close to the field. So, a few questions:
1.What and where are some of the most compelling museum experiences you've had and why, online or in real life (ideally using tech in a surprising or particularly effective way, but I'm interested in the core of any great museum experience)?
2.Given your druthers, what sort of interaction would you like to have with a museum that you're not getting?
3.What conferences or shows might I attend to be exposed to stuff of which I'm not already aware, in the US or internationally. (Obvious ones are the annual meetings of AAM, ASTC, SIGGRAPH, SIGCHI, Ars Electronica)
4.What universities are doing compelling research and application in creating compelling interfaces and experiences that can work in a museum environment (such as the MIT Media Lab or Fraunhofer Institut)?
5. What companies or design firms execute this sort of stuff like no other (such as Second Story Interactive)?
Thanks.
