Need advice on paying for college, finding non-volunteer scholarships.

A friend is trying to find programs and/or scholarships that she qualifies for which don't require volunteer work. She's a 23 year old working college student in the S.F. Bay Area who found out, after graduating from community college, that her waiver fee doesn't apply for her college. (Her mother makes too much money, but is also retired on a fixed income, with substantial debts.) [more inside]

Getting a summer job for dummies

Hi, I'm a 20 year old trying to get a job this summer. Almost any job. Wendy's, Starbucks, anything. I live in NYC. I go to college and I'm off for the summer. I applied for like 12 jobs. I have a polished resume with some volunteer experience and one summer job in 2009.. I haven't heard anything back from where I applied and I'm getting discouraged already. What should I do so I can definitely (hopefully) have a successful search and job?

CS junior, needs recommendations for career path, companies to apply to

I'm about to be a junior in computer science (CS) at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. I'm passionate about programming, but I am also interested in numerous other subfields of technology. I don't like having to rush (at anything -- this post was edited and rewritten many times); I prefer polish, good design, and careful work, where everything is intentionally and thoughtfully crafted. Technology in the Classroom

I'm curious about bans on technology at the college level. I've read previous threads on this topic but they predate the widespread introduction of iPads and tablets. If you're a student or instructor are there particular types of classes that ban electronics or is it more or less random based on the instructor? For "no laptop" classes are tablets allowed? how to deal with deceptive students?

I administer an online learning platform for a university in Massachusetts. Whenever a semester ends, I always get several reports from students claiming to have completed work that the system has no record of. In a recent case, I checked everywhere I could and even contacted the vendor, but I didn't find a shred of evidence to support this student's version of events. Yet he still insists he completed the work and won't back off. What can I say to him, and other students like him, without seeming like an asshole who won't help?

Becoming a Teacher in NC

Recently my partner has expressed interest in becoming a full-time public school teacher in the state of North Carolina. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2011 with a B.A. in political science and a 2.3 GPA. He has begun researching possible colleges to apply to in order to obtain the necessary teaching license, however, it is looking like most of the teaching programs have a requirement that the GPA be 2.5 or higher. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a school with a teaching program that does not have a GPA requirement? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking Career Direction, Want A Job Using Photoshop

I like Photoshop. I like math. I’m a deep guy. I’m not a fine artist. I’m not a photographer. I like writing. By what law are the parents of Caitlyn Ricci forced to pay her tuition?
