Does more ice in the shaker make the drink colder faster? Is there more or less dilution per second of shaking? in short, is there any reason I would want to have a particular level of ice in a shaker when making martinis?

As seen in this picture. They're English silver plate, retailed my Abercrombie & Fitch probably sometime between the 30s and 60s. But what are they for? Some kind of cocktail thing? Each is about 4 1/2" in length - on the small side.

I'm traveling to Portland, Maine, in late May and will have at least one free evening which I hope to spend eating and drinking something delicious. I haven't been to Portland in a few years so I'm looking for some restaurant/bar recommendations. I like fancy cocktails (as my posting history will indicate) and pretty much any type of food providing it's not super-duper expensive. Bonus points if you know of anything else fun going on in town as well!

My favorite drink is a Tanqueray and tonic and has been since I was young. In the US, especially as a teenager, people told me that it was a cranky old man drink while marveling at how it glowed under blacklight. I traveled to London once, and a guy there told me that it was a "chick drink".
I, of course, don't let what people think of it affect what tasty, tasty alcohol delivery vehicle I choose, but where you are, what's the "reputation" of gin-based drinks? Are they "manly" or "girly"? And how did it gain that reputation?
I'm holding a gimlet right now because I've run out of tonic water.

I'm on a low carbohydrate diet and I love cocktails, so I'm trying to figure out the best was to make a simple syrup replacement that tastes decent and has an ok mouth feel. Have you got a go to recipe that doesn't crystallize or have some funky aftertaste?

Favorite places to eat, drink, or entertain yourselves in Niagara Falls? We'll be there in July; we will have a car and passports; arriving and leaving through upstate New York, but staying in a hotel in Canada. The last Ask.Me about
eating in Niagara Falls is from 2005, so I figured I'd ask again.

There is only one cocktail that I really, really like. I discovered it by chance at my favorite restaurant, since sadly closed down. I can get people to make it for me but it seems like I always have to explain the recipe three times and I feel there must be a name for it. Unfortunately, I have drawn a blank when visiting cocktail websites. Please help me ID this drink!

Before noon booze. Tomato juice gives me heartburn and I don't really want to open a bottle of champagne for two drinks. So, what are the alternative brunch cocktails.
NO VODKA DRINKS. Preference for drinks which are not simply an ounce of alcohol added to a glass of juice/cup of hot coffee or chocolate.

Cocktail suggestions? If you are normally a manhattan/old fashioned drinker in the winter (and a gin and tonic/gimlet drinker in the summer), and you needed to pick a specialty cocktail to be served in your honor at an autumn cocktail hour, but it
could not be a manhattan or old fashioned, what would you pick?
