Great holiday lights near Jamaica Plain/West Roxbury/Brookline MA

Hello! I would like to drive somewhere within 20 minutes of Jamaica Plain MA and see some fantastic* holiday lights. Can you help? It would be amazing for this to be somewhere we could drive and park (or take the Orange Line T), then get out and walk, but I am completely open to just slowly driving through a residential neighborhood. A cluster of houses is better than just one crazy place, though if there's something really outstanding I'd love to hear about it! [more inside]

Where can you find motion dolls and angels for Christmas?

They used to have motion dolls years ago......like angles, and carolers, who moved back and forth holding candles, and some lit up and some played music. All I can find is Telco and Rennoc as company names for these dolls. But they are all used on e-bay. I think they were called motion-ettes. [more inside]

What happened to icicle lights?

For a while in the 90s, icicle lights were super popular Christmas decorations. Not the kind with dangly strings of little light bulbs, but ones that actually looked like lighted icicles. I haven't seen them in years - not in stores, not on anyone's houses. Where did they go? [more inside]

Christmas Lights in South Jersey and Philly

My family and I are going to drive around the Philly / South Jersey area to look at Christmas lights. Pretty displays are good, garish displays are better! (we hear Hershey PA has some kickass lights, but it's unfortunately too far away for our purposes.)

How to fix Christmas tree lights in series?

I have a Christmas tree with lots of lights on it. The lights are wired in series and are currently not working. So somewhere on this set of lights one or more lights are not functioning. It is a major pain, swapping bulbs for known good ones or peering into each and every bulb with a torch to see if you can spot whether the filiment is still there. What is the easiest way to find the non functioning bulbs and get the lights working again?

How do I wrap an outdoor deciduous tree with Christmas lights safely?

I am looking to wrap a 12' dogwood's trunk and branches to get an effect similar to this. But if a max of 3 strands of 100 mini lights connected end to end is the recommendation for safety, how would I configure it? Thanks, Heather
