Xmas potluck for the secular humanists, and fresh out of frankincense.

What would Jesus bring? Just moved, most of my kitchen stuff is still in boxes, but want to bring something homemade. Hosts making "a" salmon, so I assume that means whole and poached or roasted, so I'll bring a nice pinot noir. But what side or dessert or whatnot would work and be easy enough with let's say just a skillet and a pasta pot and a few tools to work with? (I don't have myrrh either.) Help! Thanks!

Christmas parties shouldn't involve a trip to the grocery store, right?

My boyfriend is having some coworkers over tomorrow night for a little get-together/party thing. This isn't their official christmas party (they had that at work last night), just a few (6-7 or so people) getting together. When asked about what he's doing for food, my boyfriend just assumed they'd all just go to the grocery store to get something, which I personally find pretty... weird. As I'm helping host, I want to provide better noms! [more inside]

Help me cater for Christmas

My family Christmas lunch has blown out from the usual 15 people to at least 27 and my original plan to roast a whole sirloin in the Webber isn't going to cut it. I have a motorised spit-roaster (charcoal, rated to 25kg) and I need to cook beef. What sort of cut should I order from the butcher to feed the crowd? [more inside]

Help Me Find Some Giant-Sized Snacks!

So, a few weeks ago we were in Freeport, Maine and saw a giant whoopie pie, which we knew immediately would be the perfect Chrismas gift for my youngest brother. Then, tonight, my wife found a giant Rice Krispie Treat, which she bought as a Christmas gift for my middle brother. So now we have A Theme for amusing consumables for the rest of the family. But now we need to come up with some other Abnormally Large Food Items for 5-6 other family members. Help me find them. [more inside]

Finding a Christmas treat from the past

Hello We are looking for a Christmas treat. They were toffee like almonds but I have googled this and only find recipes for toffee almonds. They are sugary, crunchy and In Australia around the late 1980s. We can remember having them but can't seem to remember their name. Any help will be appreciated. Angela

Really great subscription/gift food that's either Canada-based, or delivers to Canada?

For Christmas this year I would love to give my family food-of-the-month type gifts from places like Murrays and Zingermans, but those places don't deliver to Canada, where most of my family members live. Can you recommend really great subscription/gift food that's either Canada-based, or delivers to Canada? [more inside]

Texas Foods That Travel?

My boyfriend and I would like to bring some traditional Austin or Texas foods to Louisiana for his family to try over the holidays. Basically, we're looking for tasty treats that will withstand 8 hours in the car (we're bringing a cooler, so cold stuff is fine). So far we've thought of sausage from Lockhart and Bee Butter from the Bee Cave Honey Company. We need some more/better ideas!

Is it safe an/or legal to bring a Virginia ham to the Philippines from the US?

Going home to Manila for Christmas, and Mom just emailed, asking me to bring along an entire fricking leg of Virginia Ham. I've checked the State Dept site and the US Embassy in Manila for regulations on bringing in food, but I'm running into dead links. Plus, I'm flying Emirates, with an overnight layover in Dubai. The ham should fit in my bags, well within the weight allowance, but is it safe and legal?
