Educational games on Mac for young kids?

My pre-k boy LOVES video games and adventure/superhero TV shows. It would be great to harness some of that love for learning purposes. What are your recommendations for software or online games that do that? We're a Mac household. [more inside]

Does anyone have recommendations for great OS X applications for computers that are stationed in a daycare's preschool classrooms? I'm taking on the task of reinstalling four Mac Minis in my daughter's daycare, and am looking for ideas about the best software (freeware or inexpensive shareware/payware) for kids between the ages of 2 1/2 and 5 years old. Interesting software for kids

I'm looking for a Windows gadget/soundbox software program for a young kid. Not kid paint software. I'm thinking more like a big screen full of clickable shapes/objects that make noise effects or do cool mechanical things with one another. Even a game would be fine if it has tinker value. Websites with lists/reviews of educational books, videos, software for children ages 5-18?

Librarianfilter: My girlfriend is "wondering if anyone could recommend good websites containing lists/reviews for educational books/videos/software for children (ages 5 up through high school)? I recently acquired the responsibility of selecting materials (I'm a librarian) for our University's Educational Resource Center and don't have an education background so I'm new to this. I know about the Parent's Choice Foundation. I was wondering if there is something similar for librarians/educators? I get tons of catalogs but want lists/reviews, preferably online. Thanks!"
