Where would you buy a waistcoat (you know, like the vest part of a three piece suit) in Chicago? I know that All Saints has two in the fall line, but they (like the department stores) are both basic black. Guy is looking for something a little more exciting, maybe with matching pants. I don't want the responsibility of sewing it myself (and pants are definitely beyond me, anyway). Custom is probably okay; online is okay; custom on-line is not preferred. He will not have the patience for going through vintage or consignment shops.
Where in the Chicago area can I find a bottle of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne? I like the vintages from the 2000s; they run about $120-$150 a bottle. I tried Chicago Wine Co., but they only sell the older vintages from the 90s or earlier, which are at least double the price. Same with House of Glunz. Any high-end wine shops that might be a good bet? The choices are somewhat overwhelming. Thanks!

My g/f and I, based in Chicago and working in Evanston, were going to go to the Bristol Renaissance Faire today because I have the day off and she's done with work in an hour. Turns out the Faire, obviously, isn't open on Wednesdays. What else to do between Evanston and Bristol? [more inside]

Driving between Cleveland and Milwaukee with a day to spare; any ideas about interesting things to see? Not that interested in Cedar Point. Leaving the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to go to Alpine Valley Music Theater for Pearl Jam's 20 Anniversary concert, if that context will help. Like national parks along with man made attractions.
I might have to move my family to Chicago. Share your insider knowledge, Mefites! [more inside]
I'm looking to rent a house or cabin on New Year's Eve and the night before for 15-20 people. It needs to be within 4 hours of Chicago, and ideally within 4 hours of Iowa City as well, though the Iowa people can probably stop over in Chicago if the place is worth the longer trip. I've found places online, but thought I'd query the hive mind to see if anyone knows of somewhere super awesome I haven't found. [more inside]
Chicago weekend! We're staying in the Loop, but I don't want to pay ridiculous parking prices. I also want to go out for a good meal at a restaurant that can make happy both a vegetarian and a steak-lover (at the same time). [more inside]

Looking for good record stores in chicago: my buddy is coming this weekend for Lollapalooza, and to make up for the fact that we didn't get tickets for all three days, I want to take him around to some record stores. I know about Reckless and Dusty Groove in Wicker Park, but what else is out there? I'm in Andersonville, and we'll be in Logan Square tomorrow for Kuma's, so anywhere in between is highly welcome.

I just moved from Philly. What parts of Chicago have high concentrations of "third places" easily accessible from Union Station and the L lines? I'm looking for coffeeshops, bars, food courts, and other cool places that wouldn't mind 6-14 paying customers hanging out for a couple of hours and talking at moderate volume. [more inside]
I need to take my fiance on a date tonight in Chicago tonight after 11pm. Can you recommend a vegetarian/pescatarian friendly restaurant that would be open that late? She'll be near Broadway and Belmont but any where on the north side would be great. [more inside]
I'm looking for suggestions for new activities and/or hobbies (particularly team-based ones) in and around the Chicago area. While there are similar questions out there, one unique element of this question is my personal guidelines (of varying degrees of importance) that has forced me to rule out some of the more common selections like "Play tennis!" or what have you. This is not to say I won't give something a try, but that I may be better suited to one activity over another. [more inside]
I'd like to have a bottle of champagne delivered to my brother who just moved into a new place. I know there are online "champagne gift" delivery sites, but I wondered if somewhere local (to him) could do this just as well, for a little less money and keep the money with a small merchant.
