Best way to buy or otherwise acquire
edible (not treated with any kind of sprays, basically) rose petals in Chicago. Nope, can't grow roses myself (condo with no yard) and can't ask someone to grow them for me. Is this even going to be possible?

I need information about preschool daycare options in Chicago. Neighborhood is restricted to 45 minutes door to door commute (in good weather) to both the Loop and the Medical District WITH NO DRIVING. Bus or train is fine, but no more than one transfer. This is not a "which neighborhood to live in" question--it's a "What are available preschool daycare options in neighborhoods that meet these commute parameters" question.

Anyone know a good handbag repair shop in Chicago? I've got an expensive (leather, fabric lining) purse that I broke the zipper on and would like to have it fixed.

Where would you buy a waistcoat (you know, like the vest part of a three piece suit) in Chicago? I know that All Saints has two in the fall line, but they (like the
department stores) are
both basic
black. Guy is looking for something a little more exciting, maybe with matching pants. I don't want the responsibility of sewing it myself (and pants are definitely beyond me, anyway). Custom is probably okay; online is okay; custom on-line is not preferred. He will not have the patience for going through vintage or consignment shops.

Chicago caterer? Nope,
not for a wedding. Just a cocktail party not held at home. I've tried looking through the google (and reading the wedding boards anyway), but seriously, it's way too much information with no quality filter. Have you hired a local (to Chicago) caterer for a small event in the last year or so that you would recommend?

Antique furniture repair/cabinetmaking. in Chicago. The place I used in the past to repair antique furniture is closed (the man retired). There was a sign on the door which did not suggest alternative shops. Any recommendations for furniture repair in the Chicago area?

I really like this
$4.50 ABS card case from Muji. I would like to buy it. I wouldn't like to pay $5.95 shipping for it.
nor do I want to buy a bunch of other things I don't want to justify shipping costs. I live in Chicago; I've checked the MCA which does have Muji, but not this case, in their shop. Container Store has nothing similar. Suggestions?

Chicago home improvement filter: We'd like to get an estimate for installing radiant-heat flooring in our condo (6-flat built at the turn of the last century. We own a duplex down, with the primary living area being on the ground floor) or possibly replacing the HVAC with baseboard heating. Anything, really, because the conversion from whatever-it-was to the gas furnace HVAC it now is was badly done and the place is freezing all the time. Any business or contractors you recommend? Suggestions for going about this the right way? Dire warnings?

Please recommend (or warn me against) a piano mover in the city of Chicago. I need to move my sister's baby grand piano about two miles from her townhouse (Bucktownish) to my first floor condo (Boys' Town). We pretty much can't ask our friends to do this for beer and brats.

Where do you eat dosa in Chicago? The internet offers only two places on Devon (Mysore Woodlands and Udupi Palace). I've got no problems going to Devon (and will check these places out
although I suspect one of them was the place we went to get dosa that did not have them), but are these really the only two places in Chicago that serve dosa?

Please recommend someone to hem jeans in Chicago. I'm not that short (5'5" ish); I wear heels (2-3 inches most days), yet all my jeans are 5-6 inches too long. Have you found a tailor/drycleaner in Chicago that hems jeans without making them look disastrously altered?

I own a condo in a twelve-story vintage building in Chicago. I am trying to get copies of the keys to *my* *unit's* front door (not copies of the mag lock key to the front door of the building). Everywhere I go tells me it's a "do not copy" blank but my miraculously sucky management office insists it isn't and says they can't do anything to get me another key to my front door. Suggestions?

Last summer, I was walking through Boy's Town here in Chicago when some guys handed me a mint plant to advertise some new plant delivery service in the area, focusing on plants for cooking. I did not want to raise fresh herbs last summer, but now I do and, although the mint is thriving in my mom's garden, I have lost the business card that came with it! My websearch skills are not helping me find them; anyone know the company?

Alterations/Tailor in Chicago. Anyone have a personal recommendation? The drycleaner in my building does it, but I want to know if anyone can recommend a tailor personally. It's a dress (made of a recycled polyester with a water repellent finish) which needs some refitting through the bodice. Doesn't have to be a commercial tailor, either. If you know a good seamstress who is willing to do piecework, that's great. I just want someone I trust picking apart & resewing my dress.

i have a
pentax ME super and about a dozen lenses for it. however, it has the defective gasket. since most of the ME supers around have the defective gasket, i'd rather replace it with a
fully manual SLR that does not run the risk of a defective part.
i know that sears sold a SLR that fit the same lenses, but i'm having trouble tracking down the name, body style, &c. anyone know? or have suggestions of another camera which will take my lenses? or know a good used camera dealer in or around chicago, illinois?
