i have a fantastically old cat (18) who unfortunately isn't so fantastic anymore. he has pretty bad cataracts and diabetes. he regularly attacks and mewls at the other pets (one cat, one dog), charges and mewls at any visitor who is not me, and spends his day either under the bed or in the closet. oh, and he pees everywhere. literally, everywhere. my bed. the floor. the table. the carpet. the closet. the couch. i regularly discover new pee spots. he has his own litter box, it is cleaned regularly. it doesn't matter. he's confused, he drinks an insane amount of water thanks to the diabetes, he can't see too well and he pees.

After returning from a month away, we discovered green mold (or something resembling mold) growing on and around the cat's litter box in our basement. I have removed the litter box and anything else covered in the green stuff, and I started running a dehumidifier in the basement. What steps should I take to ensure that I eradicate the stuff and that my family (including a baby and the cat) remain safe?

Mom bought me a totally awesome cat toy that my cat loves. Of course, I am a doofus who stepped on it while I was moving and now it's broken, and I can't figure out where to buy another. It's manufactured by Hartz, but my usual Google-Fu is failing me.

We have young indoor cats who require constant stimulation, and of course that means that having a working laser pointer on hand at all times is essential. I can get laser pointers really cheap ($1.49) at the dollar store, with batteries included. But if I just want to replace the batteries it costs an arm and a leg. What gives?

We need a new litter brand! We have 3 cats and a relatively small space in which they live. The recent heat wave has not helped matters. Ideally the new litter will not stink up the house with odor-covering chemicals. Help?

What are the main differences between a Birman and a Ragdoll cat?
We are looking for a nice family cat and we have a seven year old. We are looking for a breed that has blue eyes, and is warm and affectioniate like a dog. I have heard that Ragdoll's tend to get really big, that is one thing I'm not sure we want. Any experiences you guys have would be appreciated.

This much beloved male cat in his late middle age has developed small bumps growing
near his
eyes. The cat is otherwise very healthy. You are not my vet, and the vet who saw the bumps said they weren't too worried about them, but your data and anecdata are solicited.

My 2 cats (who up to this point have been nothing but adorable love monkeys wrapped in fur) viciously attacked me last night. I have never seen anything like it and it's making me wonder whether I can continue to keep them. But I love them! (Or at least I have for the past 6 years...) What do I do?

When we change the duvet cover on our bed, Pusslikeso immediately dives under the covers and basically becomes comatose. She can't wait, she runs into the bedroom as soon as we start and jumps up while we're changing the bottom sheet (so she often almost gets herself made
into the bed). What chemical could she possibly be reacting to?

Been giving my cat Kashered chicken - raw or cooked for a while now. Even though the salt is washed out thoroughly no doubt something is left and that doesn't sound like something a cat would be needing in their body.
Now she's sick with a yet undiagnosed disease. Thoughts are creeping in that maybe the salt in the
kashered chicken caused it.

My cat is sneezing in relatively violent, rapid-fire outbursts of 5 - 10 seconds. The nose and eyes are not discharging anything. She'll just sit up from where she's taking a nap, sneeze a whole bunch of times in a row really fast, then lay down again. This cat has an auto-immune disorder and has taken prednisone for the last year or so. I took her to the vet a week ago for a checkup and I told the vet about the sneezing, which at the time wasn't that bad. The vet said if it got worse, I should bring my cat back in and she'd give her a round of antibiotics to see if that knocked it out, though there was nothing to indicate it was a virus. I wasn't impressed with that answer. In the last couple of days, the sneezing has become slightly more frequent. Any idea what I should do or what this might be? If the advice is go to the vet, would you recommend another vet?

I just found what looks like mosquito larvae in my cat's water bowl. I use one of those
automatic waterers where there is a gallon or so of water in a upside down container, feeding a small bowl of perhaps 2 cup capacity. In the large upside down container, there was actually one live, flying mosquito. In the small bowl that my cat actually drinks from, there were approximately a dozen apparent larvae, about 1/4" to 1/3" in length.
Should I be concerned for my pet's health at all? I am not sure how long they were in there, but I changed the water for fresh immediately.

What options can you suggest for replacing carpet in a "catbox room" with something moisture-resistant and easily cleaned? Some of the cats occasionally get confused and miss the boxes. The sub-floor is plywood. I've been thinking along the lines of the 2-part epoxy coating I applied to the concrete garage floor several years ago, but don't know if it works well on wood, which flexes. Flooring companies have pointed out problems with conventional floor coverings either absorbing or being etched by cat urine. The room has a wood-burning stove in it, so something that won't burst into flame if exposed to an occasional ember would be best. X/
