New ideas for finding a lost cat?

My landlord asked me to look after her cat while she's away on a cruise for two weeks, and I somehow lost it, within a small enclosed space, in less than 24 hours. [more inside]

A bad cat habit and how to change it

I'm fostering a cat, but she's been here since April so this is turning into a long-term project. She wasn't feral, but had had a hard outdoor life for awhile and was somewhat tense, and part of my deal has been to calm her down and make her more adoptable. On the whole it's been working and Sophie is about 95% there. But... [more inside]

What just happened to my cat?

I was having a play session with my cats and they all seemed to be enjoying it. Afterwards I was giving them treats and when I went to give them to Mamma she just stared at them and looked dazed and out of it. Usually she would gobble them up immediately. It really freaked me out! [more inside]

Looking for help with cat's perpetually scaly, cracked paw pads

My boyfriend's cat's paw pads are always extremely scaly and cracked, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Here's a picture to give you an idea of how bad. Has anyone ever seen this, and if so do you have any advice? Or is this just one of those weird pet things that probably isn't a big deal and you can't do anything about it anyway? [more inside]

Discouraging cat from pissing on sofa

Our lovely little cat-beast has taken to pissing on our sofa basically every morning, no matter how much we try to stop him, no matter how clean the litter box. We're using Febreeze to try and get rid of the smell, but we worry that a certain aroma remains, and that's what makes him go back there. Is there some strong-smelling but nontoxic-to-cats substance we could put on the sofa to make it appear less like a giant soft litter box?

Am I a mystic or do I need a lot of medication?

I've always been a skeptic, rock solid atheist and (in the loose definition of the word) empiricist. This year, before finding out I had a completely random but often fatal heart cyst, I began to hear my cat talk. Six months later, the cyst has been removed and we're.... still.... talking. Is there any way I'm not crazy? There have been some chance occurrences I can't explain. [more inside]

It's a cat food question

My question is essentially what is the best food option for an elderly cat with tooth problems (and potentially digestive as well)? And the caveats are that this is in the UK, on a limited budget, and the owner is both somewhat frail (so labour-intensive options are out) and stubbornly determined that she knows best - so I'm looking for personal experience and online resources/guidelines that I can present in the most straightforward manner. Our cat Crazy has a lump on her paw. Since she hates going to the vet, thought I'd try this route first. The lump has been on her paw for a few weeks. At first I thought it was just a clump of litter, but no, it is attached. .5 cm and sticks out more than the pic shows. It is hard and it does not appear to cause pain when touched.

Is there an age when a kitten may outgrow biting?

I would like to hear from people who have had a kitten that bit past a few weeks of age and outgrew it, or never did outgrow it. Our 7 month old kitten was found outside at around 6 weeks old and therefore missed out on some kitty socialization from his mama and siblings. He bites us (myself, husband and preteen child) regularly, sometimes drawing blood. More details below. [more inside]

Affordable high quality protein wet cat food?

When our 9-ish-year-old cat started barfing regularly, out vet had us switch him from dry food to the Royal Canin Selected Protein PR canned food. It worked, although man, that stuff stinks. Now we're looking for something more or less equivalent that isn't $3 a can. (Vet: "Try a bunch, see what works.") Any suggestions for relatively affordable high quality protein canned cat food? My cat's been biting humans out of the blue

We adopted a cat a couple of months ago. He's about five, and in good health according to the vet. (He was surrendered to a local SPCA for financial reasons.) Starting about a month ago, he's started biting people. He'll get very close, his eyes will dilate, he'll extend his neck toward an arm or leg and he'll often let out a relatively long, complaining meow and then chomp down on the limb. It's scaring the shit out of me and my wife. [more inside]

Cat Hair Removal: Floors & Furniture Edition

What tools/products do you use to get cat hair off your furniture and linoleum floors? BunnyCat's fur is extra sticky or something because it takes a LOT of effort to get her hair off my fabric couch and chairs and the crappy plastic baseboards that are everywhere in my apartment. What do you feed a finicky cat?

My cat was perfectly fine eating wise until she was 6 months and got spay surgery. I feel that now she is very different- stopped eating dry food and she only eats maybe 1 can of hills I/d gastrointestinal prescription diet per day. That if I force feed her with a spoon. I tried forti flora and even heating up her food. It only helps so much. She does eat a little but simply not enough for her age/ weight. How do I get her to eat more or not be such an ordeal every single feeding time? I did set up feeding times evening and mornings and nothing in between . What else should I put in food to entice her to eat or what type of canned food did you try?

Bleach Everywhere; Worried About Fetus, Cat, Plants

Help! Own a condo; HOA told us the wood porches would be painted this week after a spray wash. Good toys/climby things for newly three-legged cat?

My mum's boisterous siamese The Lola was recently hit by a car, and had to have a broken leg amputated (pinning was deemed unlikely to work).
