Scanning in 16-bit colour. I have a Canon CanoScan LiDE 600F plugged into a Vista machine. The box says "9600 x 4800 resolution! 48-bit colour!". Scanning options in Vista (It's all WIA not Twain these days) seem to limit me to 600dpi and 8-bit colour. Am I missing something, or does anyone else have any experience of pulling off this feat with this hardware, or know why the box would seem to be claiming unfacts?

I have a Canon Ixus 65 and I want to get the photos off the camera and onto my iPhoto-less Mac (10.4.10). I tried to go to Canon's website to download their Image Browser software but I can only find an update that works if you have a previous version of Image Browser on your computer. Will image stabilization on Digital Cameras stabilize the video recording as well? I have a Canon Elph, which does not have IS. I was looking at the Canon SD700 IS, but only if it worked for recording video too. I have an older Sony TRV-22 handicam that has steadyshot, but I find using the digital elph much more convenient. Great photos, and nice video quality too, except the obvious lack of video stabilization.

I’m no photographer, but a friend has asked me to use her Canon A610 camera to take a few photos of some kids, who’ll be wearing pageant costumes, in what she says is a large, high-ceilinged, windowless room lit by bright fluorescent lights. I have a really squeaky printer. I tried WD-40, but the squeakiness comes back. One of my engineering friends suggested that I needed something similar to sewing machine oil, but perhaps a little thicker, since the gears are plastic. Any ideas on what kind of lubricant I should get? And where I could get it? Aside from the squeakiness, this REALLY is a good printer (Canon MP130), and I really don't want to get another one.
