I currently work in NYC for a large multinational financial services company. I'm in a contract position here, which is due to be renewed in August (which possibly might not be). They've internally offered me a full-time position in Montreal, and I don't know if I should take the offer (which is flat on salary. 110k/yr). I can probably find a similar position in NYC, but it'd be a contract position, and I really like the culture of the company I work for and I guess I'd rather have the job security of a full time position right now... huge snowflake inside. My partner and I are moving to Canada to get our PhDs and so we have to apply for study permits (we're US citizens). The application asks if you've been arrested, and my partner has been once. How do we explain the arrest on the application, how do we ensure his study permit isn't denied because of this? Is there anything special we should include? [more inside]

I'm in a complicated situation and I need some serious help on this one:
I'm a Chinese citizen with China passport. And I work in the US on H1b visa.
My visa is expired. And my 1-797 is about to expire on 11/23/2013.
My company is working on my extension which filed in premium but delayed by government shut down. And this should be all done before 11/23/2013.
But I'm planning on an urgent trip to Finland for a couple of weeks to see a friend.
And to apply for Schengen visa, I need valid H1b visa. I'm on a tight schedule here, I need the visa ASAP.

Does a Canadian taking a 7-week workshop in the US need a visa? A non-profit organization is hosting the workshop, not an accredited school.

My aunt will be visiting Canada on a tourist visa from India and she would like to purchase health insurance for the duration of her visit. Can you recommend a company I can contact to get more information about this, preferably an insurance company we can buy a policy from? Google is giving me a lot of sketchy SEO results.

Always desiring to experience living in Japan, I moved in the country from Canada almost a year ago on a working holiday visa, which will expire next month. My life here is stable so far, including a job at a company willing to sponsor me for a work visa. I want to live in Japan for a longer period, but the problem is I don't seem to meet the requirements for a visa. I am aware that getting married is the easiest way, but unfortunately, I do not have that possibility.
Is there anything I can do to stay and work in Japan longer? [more inside]

I am doing an apprenticeship program at a non-accredited institution (building bikes) in the USA. I am a Canadian citizen. I pay them for this privilege, but will earn no money while I'm down there. I will be in the US for approximately 6 months. Do I need a visa?

My parents (in Canada) are trying to buy a PC for their family in the UK, but they're having trouble finding a store that will take their money. Apparently they won't accept foreign credit cards, or even money orders. He's tried Dell, PC World, Curry's, and a few others. Any ideas?

I'm a Canadian going to grad school in the U.S. I don't have a student Visa as it is not required for Canadians - we only need to show an approved I-20 form at the border - and I'm trying to figure out if and where I can work. I'm employed by the University as a TA but I'm not sure if I can work anywhere off campus or how that might be done. Any thoughts?

Can I get my fiance in the US? I'm a Canadian grad student in the US on an F-1 visa. My fiance is a citizen of New Zealand. We're looking for a way to bring her here that will let her work (we're both far too poor to make things work with an F-2). Right now, her entering the Green Card lottery seems to be the best option, but is there anything we're not thinking of? [more inside]
