Ontario employment law: I'm quitting my job to go back to school full-time in September. I'm currently employed full-time as an engineer. What legal history record can the Canadian, US border patrol sleuth out, and what do they care about? I am going on tour with a musical group from NY to Montreal. I heard that when passing the border with a van with music equipment, they can be very scrupulous and even do background checks. I have a non-felony on my record in Chicago, in which I won the court case, but never sent the $300 to my lawyer to finish the expungement process. Will they be able to sleuth out this information at the border? How have your experiences been at the border?

I have a, umm, friend who lives in Canada and has, in the past, shared 36+ gigs of music using a well-known P2P application. Given that he wants to continue sharing his files, he wonders what technical steps he can take to minimize potential legal action from the Canadian Recording Industry Association (or anyone else).
