My Googling skills are apparently insufficient. I remember once upon a time seeing on the web a picture of a woman's tombstone that said something like "I told you you could have my (coffee cake?) recipe over my dead body" and underneath followed the recipe. Does anyone know where on the net it is? Thanks!

I recently started working with fondant and have made 2 practice cakes now in preparation for making my son's groom's cake for his wedding at the end of this month. I pretty much have the whole rolling it out and draping it over the cake part down, but I can't get it to look smooth & glossy like it does in the pictures and videos I have studied. [more inside]

There's a recipe I love doing - chocolate eclair cake - it's pretty much graham crackers, frozen whipped topping mixed with prepared (with milk) instant pudding mix, and the chocolate top is cocoa, sugar, a little bit of milk, and butter. This weekend, I'll be taking an 8 hour train to NYC, then have about another 3 hours to kill, then I'll be at a fridge for the night, then the next day, I'll be walking around NYC for about 8 hours, and then delivered to the house of the person the cake is for, with another fridge. So aside from the pain in the ass of carrying it around... am I risking major major dairy spoilage? I've left this cake sitting out on a table at work all day, but this seems a bit different. Thank you!

Last minute Christmas dessert. Someone at my wife's work made this. It's a "cake" made by taking three pies (pecan, pumpkin, apple) and smashing them one on top of the other into a three-layer "Pie Cake". It was frosted with Pecan Coconut frosting. Apparently it was very very good. We can't get in touch with the guy who made it, so we were hoping the hive mind could help us out. If anyone has heard of this, please let us know if it is as simple as taking pies out of their tins, smashing them (gently) into three distinct layers, applying the frosting and VOILA, a weird but tasty dessert item!

Bakingfilter: Fridge to oven? No problemo or madness? I want to bake a cake tonight (a pflaumenkuchen) that's been sitting in the fridge all day. Do I need to let it warm up to room temp before I bake it (recipe says 350 F for 40-45 min) or can it go straight from the fridge into the oven? It's in a metal pan, so I'm not worried about anything breaking. Burning the cake would be a sad thing, however.

After 50 years of success, my Mom's favorite chocolate cake recipe is now failing to meet expectations. Betty Crocker blames Crisco, and Crisco denies blame. Not only do the cakes not rise like before, they tend to sag in the middle. It's a devil's food recipe from the original BC Cookbook, and she has been using the same ingredients forever. I calibrated the oven, and even watched her make one to insure it wasn't due to an error by a sometimes forgetful 84 year old baking Ninja. Any ideas on how Mom can get her Mojo back?

Whenever I make a cake or pie in a baking dish, I always find that once it's done, I always wreck the first piece while trying to get the first piece out of the dish and onto a plate. After the first piece, getting subsequent pieces out is easy but that first piece is impossile. But there must be a way! Share your tips on how to get the first piece of pie/cake out of the baking dish and onto a plate without destroying it!

I would like to make some Halo (the video game) things for my husband's birthday (next week). I am thinking about a Halo-cake (any good ideas? I don't want to make a photo cake) but don't have any other ideas. I don't live in the US and cannot buy many special products here. I also don't want to spend a lot of money. It's the idea that counts. Any ideas?

Your best red velvet cake recipe! The caveat: I want to make it the traditional way, with red sugar beets instead of red food coloring. I've heard the beets add a moistness that simple cakes with food coloring cannot hold up to. Does anyone, anywhere, have tried-and-true recipes? I have Googled a few but know not their reliability.
