Why do we build a navigation bar with list items instead of paragraphs?

Paragraphs can run inline as well as list items, and you don't have to override anything to eliminate bullets. Is this somehow about accessibility?

Is there anywhere decent to look for freelance web work?

I'm a frontend web developer with quite a long resume. I work full-time but I'd like to pick up some freelance, remote work in my spare time. I'm wondering if there are any places to look besides my personal network, Craigslist, and those awful "Rent-a-coder" sites where you get underbid by overseas folks who'll do it for $9/hr. Scroll Follow Box

I am a novice at html, but I have found code that I've used to create placeholders for images on the right side of my page that don't move when I scroll down. I want to hyperlink each of five images in that scroll follow box to a different audio file. Each audio file corresponds to one of five explanations grouped together on the left side of the page. There are dozens of five explanation groupings and the follow box helps users remember what the terms mean by clicking a close by box when they need to. I am using Serif WebX6 to build the website. And I've been referring to a book I have on .html. I found lots of code that uses .css or javascript, but I have no training with these, and when I pasted them in, the website didn't accept or run them. I do have a better understanding of .html though. And I have been able to move the box I made around, and create placeholders for my images, but no images. [more inside]

How to create HTML/CSS ordered lists for Sections of a document?

I am looking for a method of displaying a list item's parent number in a list with nested sublists, in the way sections of a document would be displayed. Example:
...
8. Defining Custom Counter Styles: the ‘@counter-style’ rule
8.1. Counter algorithms: the ‘type’ descriptor
8.1.1. repeating
8.1.2. numeric
...
I'd like to use only the ol and li tags and CSS styling, but HTML lists will only display the number of the current node. Thoughts? [more inside]

Enable Facebook Comments for mobile viewing in Google Blogger?

Is there a way to enable Facebook Comments Box for mobile viewing in Google Blogger? I used these instructions to enable Facebook comments on my blog. It worked out, but it's not showing up in the mobile view. This site discusses how to add a widget to the Blogger Mobile Template. The Facebook Comments Box is not exactly a widget. I imagine there's probably a solution to getting it to appear in the mobile view, similiar to this, but I don't know how to do it. Is there a way to add something like this (mobile='yes') to the plugin code?

Building a text-heavy site, what resources should I look at for prototyping?

I'm hoping to put together a relatively simple website on which to put various stories and essays my friends and I are writing. I'm aiming at imitating old journals and newspapers (like this), fairly simple, mostly text. Need help differentiating between image and text links in CSS/HTML

I'm trying to make my image links in a div start at 0.8 opacity, and on hover, bump up to 1 opacity. This works fine - until I also introduce text links to the same div. Then, the 0.8 starting opacity applies to the text as well, making it look weird. Any way to make it apply to the image links only? Thanks.

Seeking understanding and tools I need to design a homepage that is a dynamic bar chart.

This weekend I'm setting up a website for an academic event. I'd like the homepage of the site to have large, clickable progress bars that display the number of posts for each of the subpages (News & Announcements, Blog, Events, etc.). As more posts are added to each of the subpages (posts would likely be sorted and displayed by category and tag), its respective progress bar takes up more screen real estate and the tally count listed on/near it increases. Basically, I want the homepage to look like a giant, dynamic bar chart. Is there a freeware (or cheap) template, widget or piece of code that allows me to do this? [more inside]
