I've got some questions about romance novel blogs. Are there good ones that focus on historical romances, or that look at romances from a feminist perspective? What about blogs that are just plain good (on books or otherwise), and whose writers happen to write about romances from time to time? Are there any bloggers who write about romances and about other kinds of books as well? I'm trying to get a handle on this particular corner of the web, and would appreciate any insight. What are some chatty, intelligent, funny personal blogs that I should be following? I used to love reading about people's daily lives on Livejournal, as well as knowing what music, books and films they were enjoying, but I haven't been back to LJ in years, and most of my friends have stopped updating. Something like a more regularly updated Defective Yeti is what I'm looking for. [more inside]

I'm finding out that years of obsessive RSS reading, Twittering and 24-hour news broadcast watching have turned me into someone with a very low attention span when it comes to other, long-form media (movies and books). I'd like to divorce myself, to a degree, from the world of instantaneous news and commentary - partly to relax a little, and partly to devote more time to reading literature, philosophy, religious books, etc. Problem: my career is in political social media strategy. A group of East African bloggers I follow have recently begun circulating the Honest Scrap Award — a sort of informal bloggers' award-slash-meme — among themselves. I thought they had created it, but a quick Google search shows that it's been around since at least December of 2008. Does anyone know where or why it started?

Looking for indepth online. Where do you go for indepth analysis and information? The online versions of most Current Affairs print magazines are known to me. I want more Glenn Greenwald, Daily Beast; Andrew Sullivan or Informed Comment. What are the best blogs out there for political and international analysis; not neccessarily UScentric? For instance where do I find out more about the convoluted craziness of Iran or Eritrea? There are a lot of highly intelligent, inquiisitive people around these parts; where do you go to find out what the informed opinion for your interests are? Please don't limit this to just political or current affairs; the best of anything is always worth reading.
