This is my birthday celebration weekend and my birthday is next week. What are some things I can do, fun or serious, reflective or hedonistic, to mark and celebrate my birthday in a great way? Not ideas for the whole day but rather ideas for little rituals or traditions you use or know of to help cap off the year and start the new one off with a cool start?
My husband has a birthday coming up. I know he would like something like this coin bank, but it's sold out and I'm having trouble finding an adequate, grown-up substitute. [more inside]
It's my dad's 70th birthday coming up, and we're brainstorming ways to celebrate. He's an avid geocacher, and we'd like to do something in honor of the occasion. Geocachers of AskMe, please advise on a couple of ideas we're considering! [more inside]
A beloved person turns 21 tomorrow. Will be seeing said person this weekend. But would like to acknowledge this milestone on actual day. Difficulty level: said person is in Stockholm (suburb) and I'm in California. Stockholm is 9 hours ahead. Swedes: Can I get a Lilla My mug delivered? Flowers? Ideas welcome. Under $100. Thanks!
Can you identify this necklace? [more inside]
My first child is due around the 25th of June this year. Due to various health-related reasons my wife will be having a C-section for the delivery. Silver lining is we get to pick the day! [more inside]

Pretty simple: If I take standard out-of-the-box cake mix, make the batter, and put it in two small cake pans instead of one standard size one, what (if anything) do I need to change about how I bake it? [more inside]
My boyfriend didn't say happy birthday to me, which I'm convincing myself is not that big of a deal, but I don't know why it's annoying me so much. More details inside. [more inside]
A friend of mine requested a cake pop cake for her birthday. How can I make such a thing? [more inside]
I don't celebrate my birthday. and don't publish it on FB. I don't wish others happy birthday on FB, in order not to draw attention to this. I have a very large number of FB contacts. [more inside]
So my husband's birthday is coming up, which is going to be his first birthday we're celebrating as a married couple. I tend to like to gift experiences rather than things, and I'm thinking of doing something soccer-themed this year, as he really loves soccer and we've never actually attended a soccer game together. [more inside]
I need to pick a place in DC for dinner on my birthday! I'm the type that usually follows the whims of others and not the best at taking the lead on planning. Help! [more inside]
One of my friends is learning to play bass, I've been helping him out with some basic stuff as I play guitar, but I don't know much bass specific stuff. It's his birthday soon, and I'd like to get him something bass related. Is there a book, a piece of kit or anything really that you'd recommend? The stuff we're going through is mainly blues/rock. Thanks.
My friends are having a joint birthday celebration this weekend, and I've offered to make them a cake. The one piece of guidance I've received? "Jam. I LOVE JAM." Give me your most jam-ful cake recipes, please! [more inside]
An amazing human being I've known since high school has a milestone birthday in a month. I'm considering secretly asking a bunch of her friends to record super-short videos, and then compiling those into a birthday greeting. Seems pretty straightforward. So what's the huge looming problem that I'm not considering? [more inside]
My grandmother is turning 90 this June! I'd love some ideas for her "party". Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
SHORT VERSION: What exactly is the revised canon scope with regard to Clone Wars material? The first series only, both series (and films), or what? Will either of us enjoy it? On prior casual viewing nether show held our attention. Can I hire a Darth Vader birthday-gram service in Seattle? Longwinded stuff below. [more inside]
My soon-to-be-9 year old stepson has requested that I make him a birthday "pizza" of sorts for his big day. His vision involves a brownie base, ice cream as the "pizza sauce" and cookies as the "toppings." I'm a decent baker and this seems like a thing I could accomplish in a straightforward way but I'm wondering if any MeFites can point me to proven recipe winners for this sort of thing. No food allergies or restrictions. He is a chocoholic. Thanks in advance!
I've been through a rough year or so. Divorcing and it will be final sometime between now and my 60th birthday. I am happy with this change so that is actually a positive thing. However, I want to mark my 60th milestone birthday with something I'll always remember. I like to try new things and am a bit on the adventurous side. [more inside]
Looking for the most luxurious, pampering gifts... [more inside]
I work very closely with my (supportive, hardworking) boss on a daily basis and she's always juggling her ridiculous amount of responsibility with thoughtfully planning little birthday celebrations for her direct reports. No one has stepped up yet to organize something small for her, so I'd like to return the favor in a genuine, humorous way. I'm also sensitive to people who hate going to these types of things and it coming off as a big suck-up event. Suggestions needed! [more inside]
Help, New York MeFites! My daughter and 359 of her closest friends are participating in a little shindig you guys throw at Thanksgiving. Her 20th birthday is right in the middle of all the festivities, and she's sad about being away from home on her birthday. Help me figure out how to make her day special in the midst of the hubbub. I'm planning on making 65 cards for a friend's milestone Birthday. I have a few ideas, but need many more suggestions on wording or sayings or funny notes. I have a bunch of saved up cat pictures that I can make fit a variety of sentiments (funny, sweet, languid, acrobatic, zonked-out, playful, etc.) so I'll be able to fit just about anything with an image. I'm open to any suggestions offered up; or links to websites with something to inspire me. Suggestions? [more inside]
My girlfriend's birthday is coming up (really soon)! I've planned for us to do some DIY activities with different friends, and I'm stuck on ideas. She loves making things, learning how to make things, and having things that she made herself. [more inside]

Looking for music and hopefully audio for birthday songs that might have been sung in the states before ~1860, ideally in English. I feel certain that I have seen a list of such songs in the past, but several decades worth of hubbub about the "Happy Birthday to You" copyright and the generic nature of the possible search terms seem to have have rendered Google helpless. Thanks!
Recently, a friend celebrated her birthday with a "learning to Batik" party. We all went to a Batik shop, created a design, Batik'd that design onto a product of our choosing, and then had lunch together. I really enjoyed that we got to learn something new to all of us, were all working on the same type of thing but out own separate versions, and there was an end product for each person. I'd like to something similar to celebrate my birthday and would love more Maker/geeky-esque ideas. Any suggestions for what the skill/end product could be? More specifics inside. [more inside]
My friend has requested a Boston cream pie (cake) for her birthday on 10/3. I have a bundt cake pan shaped like a castle (link) and would like to do a fancy interpretation of Boston Cream Castle cake. Advice on recipes, decor, technique for filling? [more inside]
I escaped a long-term abusive marriage homeless with a lot of hermit like attributes. It's been about three years of clawing and crawling out of that hole, and while I'm not completely out, I do have an apartment, job, friends, and enough money to feed me and my kid three squares a day. That deserves a celebration and I'm determined that I'm going to spend a long weekend with my best friend in London in December as a combo birthday/holiday gift to myself. I want to see Hyde Park done up for the holidays, do a Jack the Ripper tour, eat in a pub, and visit a museum [more inside]

I need to get a birthday gift for my new boss (I've worked there just a couple of months and this is the first office birthday since I started). I'm told we do gifts around $10 plus lunch for the birthday person. Extra layer of difficulty: the birthday is early next week. [more inside]
I'm going to an event this week where people sit around and eat and drink and read poetry, either their own or by others. Since it also happens to be the organizer's birthday, I'd like to read a birthday-related poem, something by a contemporary poet. [more inside]
I want to go out for a good meal with my family* for my 30th birthday, so I'm looking for a really good (but not too fancy) restaurant in London. Make me some recommendations! [more inside]

I want to make my mom's birthday special. It's this coming Saturday, but I recently found out that my grandparents, who are visiting from overseas, will be joining us that day. My partner is turning 40, and since our plans for a European vacation aren't panning out we're hoping to spend a similar chunk of change on a boat rental for a booze cruise, sailing around New York harbor for several hours. I'm looking for tips and recommendations. [more inside]
Last year for my birthday, my family came over for dinner and cake, and we tie-dyed. It was THE BEST. I'd like to do something similar this year - fun for all ages (4 year old - 60 year old, 8-10 people), easy to do, somewhat quick, doesn't require everyone sitting down at the same time and "doing a craft", not too "lame" for the adults, but not too complex that the 4 1/2 year old can't do it without a little help. Tie-dying was fun for everyone, but I'd don't want to do it two years in a row. I've got two weeks and can get pretty much anything in store or from the internet. Willing to spend a bit of cash. Thanks!
