I will be doing some consulting work. Basically I will be strategizing with a very small company on optimizing their presence on the web and helping them with social networking. Here's my problem-- I have no idea what to charge for my time. I will spend two hours driving to them and probably an hour or two consulting. What do you think I should charge? I don't want to be too low but I am also scared that I might be too high. What do you think would be a good rate? I am located in the Philadelphia area if that makes any difference.

The wife got a bill in the mail (then lost the bill) from either Blue Cross/Blue Shield of South Carolina or the South Carolina State Department of Education. She can't remember which, but does remember that it's a health insurance bill (which for some reason the state department of education has sent to them before, possibly due to the mother in law being a teacher in South Carolina) for roughly $500-600. I have in my hand a "Past Due Notice" for my stay in-- and I quote-- "the hospital." It claims to be from Texas Medicine Resources, which is a real company, but the address they want me to mail my $250 to is of course different from the one Google gives me, and besides that there is not a lick of specific information anywhere that would convince me they have any connection to my medical history. Assuming I'm right that justice needs to be served, how can I help that happen? [more inside]

I plan on upgrading to a Blackberry Curve with Verizon and going on their emailing and messaging plan (450 min unlimited). On their website it comes to $99.99 an month. I'm an avid texter, want voice, be able to email, go online and use vzn navigator. I want to lower that monthly bill... What can I disable (that I'll be charged for) on the Blackberry so I won't have to pay $100 a month?

Is there a free website/service that allows simple billing? I pay for my daughters cell phone bill monthly but she has to pay $10 towards it. I'd like to "bill her" via email automatically every month to get her introduced to the responsibility of paying bills on time.
Ideally this "billing service" would be free, would allow me to enter her email and sms and keep a running tab of what she owes.
Has anyone built this yet? If not, any other suggestions?

How to deal with an old, fraudulent, debt? About 10 years ago, someone racked up $750 worth of phone calls on my phone line. When the bill came, I reported it to Verizon (who was then called Atlantic Bell, I think), and told them the calls were not mine. [more inside]

Is there any way a cellphone company might lower my outrageous overage charges that are completely my fault? I discovered with horror that I stupidly went over the allotted "whenever" minutes last month, to the tune of an extra 300 bucks. This isn't a moral thing: I'm not blaming the company. I just slipped up, the 300 bucks is a lot to me right now, and I'm wondering if there's a way to convince them to take pity on me. [more inside]

We received a menacing letter today from our electric provider. They stated that since our last few bills have been late (which I don't dispute) we will now be required to pay a $200 "security deposit"... BUT... We have a 13-year payment history with them, at the same address, so where is the logic in suddenly requiring a "security deposit" that we obviously can't afford? Is there any way I can convince them to not do this to us? Please read the background info inside before responding. [more inside]

A very good friend of mine had her cellular telephone stolen the other day, and by the time she noticed this and reported the theft to T-Mobile, the thief had made many hundreds of dollars worth of calls to a foreign nation. After many calls back and forth, T-Mobile says they are doing her a great favor by waiving 25% of the costs but she is responsible for the rest. Is this right? Why would they treat a supposedly valued customer of several years this way? The T-Mobile reps tell her there is no appeal process or ombudsman; does anyone know if this is really true?

When I was a child, the diner my family frequented had a tiny spike by the register where your bill would be impaled after you paid. I'd like the same spike in my home to hold receipts (I have two people using one debit card, eek...) but I can't find it anywhere. I've tried google, restaurant and office supplies sites. I'm a good searcher, but I have the feeling that my inability to find it stems from not knowing what it's called at all. Can anyone help?

Film Double Bill Suggestions. I'm putting together a season of double bills of great films. The double bills could be linked by actor, director, cinematographer, editor or genre, or they could be linked thematically - 2 films about childhood/set on a runaway train/sharing a common influence and so on. Anything goes, although both films must appeal to a broad audience, and should be generally recognisable as 'classics' of their type. What 2 films have you always wanted to see together?
