In the late 80s there was a Pinarello Bicycles ad that was a horizontal banner at the top of the page in Bicycling magazine. It was a long distance shot of a single cyclist riding over some rolling hills, and the text said: "Pinarello...Alone." I loved it. I'm pretty sure it was produced as a poster as well, and I'd love to find it. [more inside]

I had the great fortune of recently running into this fine fellow, who is currently in the middle of riding his bike from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska clear to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, all in the name of raising money for a youth home for at risk and abused teens in Alaska. Apparently, and unbeknownst to me, he has been wintering here in my home town of Missoula, MT for the past few months, but I only recently met him. We got to talking about his website, and he mentioned that he had been on the hunt for an easy way for him to mark his progress on a map for visitors and friends to follow. I, being the fairly technically minded guy that I am, would like to help with that. [more inside]

My daughter is 10 years old and has always been paralyzed with fear of riding a bike. Just recently she won a brand spanking new bike in a raffle in school. It's a 15 speed girl's bike with 26" tires. She is finally interested in riding. After buying the appropriate safety equipment, what can I do to help her learn? I learned at age 4 without training wheels; she thinks she wants them. What say you good folk? Any tips at all are appreciated.

How fast is a horse? According to this review of a book on bicycling, one of the original motivations for the development of the bicycle was to find a cheaper, faster, more reliable human-powered alternative to the horse. Did we succeed? I average around 12-15mph on my 10 mile daily bicycle commute - can a horse compete with that?

Learning to ride a bicycle at the age of 30. Yup and I need to do it alone, unfortunately not because of embarassment (quickly offset by benefit) but because none of my friends *gasp* know how to ride one ! I looked for courses in my city with no luck. Anybody ever did so ? Tips, tricks ?

Ever since this I've been looking into recumbent bikes with an obsessive toy-hunger. At nearly 50lbs, the Bigha is widely denounced as heavy. My question is: how heavy is the average mountain bike, hybrid/commuter bike, and road bike? I can't find overall weight specs on the Cannondale website or the Specialized site. I'm not incredibly into bikes and have no frame of reference. Help me out if you can. How porcine is 50lbs?

Are bicyclists supposed to obey the same 'rules of the road' that cars do? Such as: stopping for stop signs, red lights, not going up on sidewalks...etc.
