Can you explain to me the process of going to a restaurant in Germany like I'm five, please? [more inside]
This week I'll be flying through Berlin, arriving at Tegel and departing from Schonefeld. I get in just before 10am and fly out at 6pm. I'll be somewhat mobile but will be carrying enough that, eg, walking several miles through an architecturally interesting neighborhood, for example, which I would normally love, would be a no-go. Looking mostly for recommendations for where to get some good food and kill time pleasantly. [more inside]
My friend received a number of these bugs at her BBQ and she was wondering if anyone could identify them. Location: Berlin, today, during the European heatwave.
This 7 minute youtube video shows colour footage of Berlin in 1945 right after the war. The whole thing is pretty cool but I'm specifically interested in identifying this statue which appears at the 2 minute mark. I'm fairly sure it's not in Berlin anymore but maybe it is? Can anyone identify this statue? I'd like to know if it is still in the city somewhere and if not, what happened to it. Thanks!
I've got 2 nights in Berlin, then 2 nights in Hamburg, then 3 nights unbooked before I fly back out of Berlin - where should I spend them? This is around the start of May. I like cities, interesting places, staying in hostels, don't have a huge amount of money. (I've not been to Berlin before and it's possible the answer is "more Berlin").
My girlfriend and I are going to Copenhagen and Berlin for about a week each in mid-March and are looking for suggestions on things to do. [more inside]
Anyone know a place in Berlin that does eyebrow and facial threading? I'm in Prenzlauer Berg, but I'll go where ever I can find a good place.
We're headed to Berlin for the holidays. We have a general sense of where to go and what to see from previous MeFi posts but wonder specifically: What's the city like on December 25th and over the holidays in general? Are there any activities, sights, events occurring during this time that we shouldn't miss? Oh, and where should we eat? [more inside]
Berlin Filter: I'm heading to Germany soon, and I was disappointed to learn that the Stasi Museum will be closed while I'm there. What's the next best destination for a tourist curious about the inner workings of the East German secret police?
My wife and I are in Berlin until this Saturday morning (Oct. 4th). We'd like to go Out On The Town (i.e. Drinking and dancing) one night, but there seem to be no end of places to go and I'm kind of at a loss. Can anyone suggest any particular nights/venues/events? [more inside]
A follow-up to this question: now that we've decided which European cities we're visiting, what should we do when we're there? [more inside]
Let's say you're a young artist. And you're headed to Berlin in spring. You plan on fully immersing yourself in local culture once you get there -- you're going to get a studio, mingle at pubs and learn about your neighborhood. But you'd like a boost on the art scene. You want to get culturally & conversationally fluent! [more inside]
We'll be arriving Sunday afternoon, both of us first-timers in Berlin. Any recommendations on where we should be for the game? (Pub, outdoor venue, anything goes).
I'm in Berlin for a conference, and I'm trying to squeeze some time in the city around our program. I've been to Berlin several times before and there is a bus tour as part of the even, so I've got the major tourists sites covered, but need suggestions for late night and early morning suggestions. I've been accepted to two summer programs in two great cities! I am indecisive and have only a few more days to decide which travel grant to accept. [more inside]
I am traveling to Europe this upcoming May and I am stuck on whether it is best to use a Eurail pass or buy point-to-point tickets. I know which dates I want to travel and my accommodation is all pre-booked. Are point-to-point tickets always more cost effective? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? [more inside]
I'm in Berlin this week for the first time! I like tiny strange museums, free things, cafes with live music, markets, parks, walking around outside, bookstores, cheap food, and interesting shops. Basically I love cities and I want to understand about what this city is like. I'd love suggestions for neighbourhoods to wander around in. [more inside]
We're going to Berlin. Should we go to Prague, Copenhagen, or maybe Krakow as an additional stop? [more inside]
Seeking recommendations on media--books (novels and nonfiction), movies, music, maybe even documentaries--on life in Berlin during the 1980s and 1990s. I'm especially interested in the punk scene and any other counter cultural groups through this time period. [more inside]

As part of Berlin's 750-year celebration in 1987, special posters were printed featuring a variety of artwork. Are these posters, with the "750 Jahre Berlin" printing at the bottom, still available for purchase? I am particularly interested in "Requiem fur Luise."
Hubby's going to Berlin for work. He wants to know what to bring back for me, (I know, so sweet). What are good gifts to bring back to the US? Suggestions? I did tell him jewelry is always accepted...
So, I'm looking to do some travelling in Germany either this fall, or next spring. Right now, Munich and Berlin are on my list. I'm hoping for some interesting books to read before the trip on the history and culture of the places I'll be visiting. [more inside]
I'm heading to Europe in the thick of winter mostly as part of field work for a research degree. Amsterdam, Berlin are definite destinations. All advice I have is that winter in Northern Europe sucks hard and isn't a great time to be going. Can someone please explain why that's so apart from the cold? Can someone else explain why that's completely wrong? How could I get the most out of the experience? [more inside]

I'll be in Berlin for 4 days in June and the people I'm with (3-4 of us total, 1 is unsure) want to eat in some great places in Berlin. Ideally, they want places with delicious food, but also possible also places with memorable or remarkable interiors or clientele. Assume money is no object.
I'm planning on taking a solo trip to Berlin for a week. As a general guideline, if I stick to cafes (and the occasional doner kebab) how much should I expect to spend on food?

Where should I go in Berlin to buy good bras? What are the good European brands that can accommodate a plus size, busty gal (I think my Euro size is ~85E)? I've recently moved here from the U.S., where I know how to do all this. I'm prepared to spend some money for quality. I don't think I need a fitting, but I need to know where to go and what brands to look for. And what's bra buying etiquette here, i.e., can I try them on in the store? I don't want to do it wrong! Those Karstadt shop ladies can be really bitchy, and I don't want to get yelled at.

I'm an American, planning to visit Germany for the first time in a few months; I'll be there for about a week, mostly in Berlin. I'm a musician (I do electronic pop -- I had a track on MeFiComp!), and I know my music has at least a handful of fans in Germany. So I'm thinking about trying to book myself a gig. I'm fairly confident that I can find a place to play, and transport my gear over there. What I haven't been able to figure out from my internet research is the legal side of things. Do I need to get a special visa if I'm going to do a paid performance? What about an unpaid performance? Will customs give me a hard time if I show up with music gear and no paperwork to explain what I plan to do with it? If so, how would I go about getting the necessary permit(s)?
