One kid, two households, many bedbugs

Is This a Bed Bug ?!?!

I was cleaning my apartment this afternoon and I came across this bug. Doing a quick internet search it looks close to a bed bug, but doesn't quite match the pictures I came across. What type of bug is this? If it's a bed bug, how do I ensure my apartment stays bed bug free? Should I just burn down my apartment and call it a day (I've never had bed bugs before)?

Found a bedbug , now what?

So I woke up in the middle of the night and my foot was itching so I took a look at it and I noticed two raised areas. I was immediately suspicious so I got up and looked on the side of the bed and I found a bedbug crawling back down to whatever hell that birthed him. I removed him and stuck him in a plastic bag. NOW WHAT?!? [more inside]

Bed bugs, Y/N? (Time warp edition)

For the past couple of days, I've been getting bitten by things at night. One bite on one night, two bites another night... and then last night, which was apparently some kind of crazy Ender's Game AU in which the bugs won. I thought I was getting bitten by mosquitoes, since I had the window open for a couple of nights (not last night). But a "kind" "friend" suggested these might be bed bug bites. Picture of bites included below. [more inside]

is this dresser too good to be true? in other words, is it bedbugs?

I found a dresser on the sidewalk in Brooklyn yesterday, the 30th. I rushed to take it, since it appeared to be of very high quality and, having recently moved, I needed one! Now, I'm paranoid I may have exposed myself to bedbugs - not because of any obvious empirical evidence, but because the risk in New York City is purportedly so high, and the piece could have been thrown out because of an infestation. (It could also have been the casualty of a move.) The only possible visual sign of any infestation is here, in the base of the dresser: http://imgur.com/ARBrX3K This white substance scattered and disappeared when I tried to scoop a bit of it up with some paper. I think it's probably wood shavings from the dresser itself; an extensive search turned up no obvious signs of droppings, shed skins, the things themselves. But this white, salt-like substance does not seem altogether inconsistent with eggs. Should I get this thing out of my apartment immediately?

Bedbug cleaning - how do I prevent repopulation?

I've had bedbugs in my apartment. My landlord hired exterminators to treat the place using a heat treatment, so I did all the steps they requested, including washing/drying clothes and keeping them in a plastic bag until you leave the apartment (check) and taking very little with you (check). I'm in the library as I type this and I JUST saw a bedbug crawl across my bag. What can I do to keep my place from getting reinfected? [more inside]

My library just had bedbugs. Can I keep checking out books?

I like to check out books from my local library branch every week. This weekend, they were closed, with a sign on the door explaining that they were being treated for bedbugs. I'm not sure why kind of treatment they used. How likely is it that the books are now safe to check out? Should I go buy a book at the bookstore instead?

Mention possible bedbugs to roommates?

I've been subletting a room for the past six months or so, and am about to move out. Recently I've been feeling like I've been bitten by things during the night. Bed bugs? I don't know, but it seems possible. What is the best option here? Recommendations to prevent bedbugs in hotels.

We will be travelling soon using different hotels I'm not familiar with. Now I do my spot checking for bed bugs. I'm more concerned with clothing. When travelling I hang up as much as I can in the closet and then try to leave everything else in the suitcase. But it's really difficult and I would like to have this stored in bags. What bags do you recommend are best to buy that we can keep everything else in but that they will stay well sealed. Can we leave these bags in hotel drawers? Is a luggage liner suggested? what else should we get? I'm so unclear with the reviews on the internet. I want to do my due diligence and try to be reasonable. Thanks.
