Mrs. Funmonkey1 and I ar looking for a decent happy hour. Think long bar with loads of room, decent bar food and a good selection of wine and beer. Crowd over 25 and relaxed. Anything like this in North Beach?
I'm looking for a great spot to get away from New England for a New Year's beach vacation. I realize I'm booking last-minute so flights are expensive and lodging inventory is limited. Tulum is high on the list, but it doesn't seem possible to stay anywhere near the water for less than $500/night (which is WAY beyond my budget). Airbnb has places in town for around $1000/week which is well within reach. Would it be a fun/relaxing/rejuvenating beach vacation experience staying in town in Tulum, renting a car, and driving to the beach? if so, does the hive mind have any tips for staying in town? Also, what alternative destinations might I consider in order to get right on the water? [more inside]
Back in the early 2000's, I went to a bakery on Martha's Vineyard and purchased a jar of Beach Plum jam and a tin of homemade shortbread. Fell in love with the combination. Is it possible to buy Beach Plum Jam on Long Island or in Manhattan? Also, where can find delicious shortbread? [more inside]
I'm super bad at planning travel stuff and I'm trying to take a vacation with my girlfriend at the end of December. We'd like to do 3 nights at a quiet-ish beach within reasonable driving distance of Disney World and Universal Studios (because Harry Potter) in Orlando, and 4 nights doing both of those theme parks. First time Disney planner here, and I don't know anything about Florida beaches really. [more inside]
I expect this will turn out to be something akin to a lump of interesting concrete, but please take a gander at this object from a beach near Port Townsend, Washington, and tell me what you think it might be. [more inside]

My husband and I are in the beginning stages of planning our first vacation in a few years. It'll be our first vacation with kids; our daughters are 13 months and 2.5 years. We will be going in September. I'd prefer to stay in the Eastern time zone so we don't have to mess with sleep schedules. We have to stay in the US, as neither kid has a passport. We'd prefer to drive so we can set our own pace. Budget for the whole shebang is $1,000 - $1,500. [more inside]
We live in the Baltimore/ DC area. We want to take our two dogs on a vacation to the ocean or a lake that is dog friendly. A body of water that has a beach. We want them to play in the water and be able to relax under an umbrella with us. We are not interested in rivers. We are willing to drive around 3 hours for this experience. Any ideas.
I am looking for a quiet place to pitch a tent and do nothing for a few days preferably by the beach. I have gear and am familiar with travelling in Mexico.
I will admit up front that this is a vague, cerebral kind of question. I'm not sure how to make it less so at this point, so if you can wade through, I'd really appreciate it. Wall-o-text ahoy. [more inside]
I work an extremely stressful seasonal job. I start getting 2 days off a week starting in July. My girlfriend and I love going to the Asbury Park beach. We usually go in August/September, but I NEED a break now. I suffer from anxiety and the laid back vibe of the beach coupled with the relaxation of the water calms me. My concern is that earlier in the year the beach will be packed and the hotels will be expensive. Does anyone have any experience with this location this time of year? I don't like tons of people. Are there any alternatives in the tri-state area? It doesn't even have to be a beach. It just has to be relatively inexpensive and RELAXING!!! Something that includes nature is a big plus (especially water). I'm not a fan of camping. Thank you in advance!

We are currently vacationing on the Gulf in Alabama and have noticed something odd. We are staying at a very large condo complex and a significant number of people leave their flip flops/shoes at the end of the dock before they slog with their stuff to the waterfront. This isn't a short walk and some of these shoes are expensive. It's odd to me that people wouldn't just wear their footwear to their claimed spot on the beach. Is this a regional thing? I've seen a few pairs left at the end of the boardwalk on my native Georgia and Florida beaches but never in these numbers. Any clue? Thanks.
I'm looking for a great hotel/inn/motel on the beach in New England. I'm in Central Massachusetts and would like it to be within a 3 hour drive. We'd be doing the trip July 10-13. [more inside]
8-10 people want to rent a beach house in New Jersey for a weekend (ideally Asbury Park), hopefully for $50/person per night. Everything we've seen wants a week-long commitment. Is our New Jersey beach weekend feasible? [more inside]
We have done a long weekend at the Delaware shore with friends for the past few summers, and would like to try a new place. We'd like to go somewhere where we can swim with toddlers and babies (so no rough ocean--the Delaware bay was great for this) and is not too far a drive for either of us. [more inside]
I need help coming up with a vacation place for this year for the week after Christmas that won't break the bank. It's harder that it seems, and so I'm hoping you all can help out. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I need a recommendation for a 4-7 day tropical vacation sometime this spring. I'm thinking hedonistic amounts of lounging, drinking, napping, reading, and eating in the sun for me and my boyfriend. There are way too many options and I will keep putting it off until I can slim down the choices. I especially could use specific recommendations for hotels, as I find it basically impossible to tell whether food is good anywhere. [more inside]
While my partner visits me in Boston we'd like to stay for a few nights in a B&B or hotel outside the city. We don't drive, so the town needs to be easily accessible by train. Ideally, we'd like to be very close to the beach and have a fireplace in the room. A quaint town square with a nice coffee shop would also be great. [more inside]
My girlfriend and I both have some time off between Christmas and New Years Day. We'd like to take a one-day roadtrip somewhere along the southern California coast, get a hotel, hang out on the beach a while, sleep, come home the next afternoon. We're located in Santa Monica, and on a pretty tight budget. Ideas for great little spots/hotels? [more inside]
I left my holiday vacation planning until the last minute and I'm at my wits' end as to where I can take a warm, relaxing vacation at any time between Dec. 21st and Jan. 5th without spending my life's savings. Any ideas or frugality resources? [more inside]

I'm flying down to SoCal on Saturday morning and flying back back Sunday evening after spending Saturday evening visiting with some friends in HB. I'll be flying into LAX, picking up a rental, then head south to Huntington Beach. On Sunday, I'll head north to catch the plane flight back. How can I make this easy to do, where can I stay, and what beaches might I visit along the way with the short time I have planned? [more inside]
My wife and I are looking for a 4-5 night stay in a couple of weeks. We want somewhere we can relax on the beach, that also has plenty of very healthy places to eat. Vegan-friendly choices are a plus, as are juice bars (or places that serve fresh fruit/veggie juice). [more inside]
My extended family is trying to put together a trip to someplace interesting, warm and beach-y, to occur around New Year's. Where should we consider going? [more inside]

Do you have any secret spots within an hour or so of Baltimore that you want to share with the entirety of the internets? Unlike previous AskMes, I don't want to go swimming, or deal with a billion tourists. I just want to go read a good book near the water for a day (ideally on a quiet beach, or in a park near a beach).
Would like to drive from DC to Rehoboth Beach, DE on a Tuesday and come back on a Wednesday, staying in a B&B overnight (at the end of July.) Can't find a B&B in that area that allows people to stay for one night instead of two. Do you know of a decent B&B in Delaware near the beach/ocean that would allow two people to stay one night?
I am packing for an afternoon-evening beach trip with our kids. Since we are leaving in the afternoon, instead of first thing in the AM, I have time to really think about packing. What are some great things to pack for the beach that people don't think of or forget? (for instance: The book you've been meaning to read, a gallon or 2 of water you leave in the car to rinse off sandy bodies, baby powder to help get off sticky sand, portable kids microscope for looking at sand/critters, baggies to bring home found treasures)
My dad, who has some health problems that limit his mobility and sometimes his mental acuity, asked me to investigate the possibility of spending 3 days at the beach near where he grew up, which is Belle Harbor. I live in Brooklyn but don't know anything about Belle Harbor, including exactly what it is. I think it's more or less the same as Rockaway Beach, and I've found some rental bungalows around Beach 110th Street. My question--is that where Belle Harbor is, and could my mom and dad and I enjoy three days there with no car? Given that leisure activities could basically be the beach and just my dad soaking up the nostalgic vibe of his native 'hood, could we find restaurants, simple groceries, a quiet bar and other essentials within a very limited walking distance?
Hi. Does anyone know who made the following video clip? Was it a music video -- I don't recognize the artist. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
