Looking for tips for upcoming trip to Barcelona in last two weeks of September. We've read some travel guides but wondering for first-hand advice on what to expect for weather, how much tourist Catalan to cram, must-sees, must-avoids, advice on how to best experience the Mercè festival which takes place while we are there, any great recommended day trips, how to most cost-effectively navigate the city via metro or tram, etc. Thanks in advance.
tau_ceti and I are leaving for a vacation in Spain this week, hitting Madrid/Basque Country/Barcelona. We're looking for recommendations of stuff to read on our Kindles about the history, culture, geology, etc of regions we might be driving through. Ideas? [more inside]

I have old Spanish olive oil label, apparently from the 1930s. The printer's name, in small print at the bottom of the label, reads "A. Martinez" (although there is a slight chance that the "A." is actually an "R."). This name is followed by a dash and "Barcelona" and preceded by what looks like T* G*. The "asterisk" looks something like a superscripted yen (currency) symbol. All this is difficult to read because it is printed in black on a dark green background. The brand name of the olive oil is Vulcano.
I currently have my iPhone4 on tmobile's $30 for 100 min and unlimited data, prepaid plan. I need to spend a week in Barcelona soon. I was told by customer service that I will not be able to roam in Barcelona using this plan; any tips for how to make my cell phone experience in Barcelona as close as possible to what I have here? We are visiting Barcelona, Spain for a week, and are having trouble finding decent restaurants that aren't geared towards tourists in the Eixample area. I figure that y'all might know where we can eat. [more inside]
I am traveling to Europe this upcoming May and I am stuck on whether it is best to use a Eurail pass or buy point-to-point tickets. I know which dates I want to travel and my accommodation is all pre-booked. Are point-to-point tickets always more cost effective? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? [more inside]
Due to a scheduling change on a work trip, I will be spending tomorrow in Barcelona with nothing to do. I would love to buy a small piece of local art to fit into my carry-on for my SO. Nothing bigger than a single shoe (my carry-on is already pretty full) or more than $50?
Looking for recommendations for a hotel or B&B in the Barcelona area. We are driving and arriving late May. Need a place with parking ideally north of the city but easy walking distance to the metro. €150 or less. TIA!
Last year I spent some time in the Eixample district of Barcelona. We really liked the scale, the feel, the streets there. Are there places in the United States like that? [more inside]

I'm studying abroad this fall in Barcelona with pretty workable Spanish but very limited Catalan, and I'd love to do some work/activism/volunteering/organizing around queer or related issues (HIV/AIDS, youth development, homelessness, etc.) while I'm there. Is this possible given my language limitations? [more inside]
I need to figure out lodging in Barcelona for one Saturday night, and then two weeks later I am interested in rock climbing in the region and would like to know where to stay then. [more inside]
I'm going to Barcelona for a week at the end of May. I fly in at about 7pm on Saturday, and want to spend three days seeing the countryside around the city before spending the rest of the time in the city itself. [more inside]
I'm in Barcelona with a friend. We've spent two pleasant days wandering around and seeing the sights, and we'd be happy to keep doing that, but tomorrow the weather is forecast to be wet. No problem, we'll go to some museums! But tomorrow is Monday, and most of the museums are shut... What can we do instead? [more inside]
Due to some last-minute circumstances, I just booked a trip to Barcelona for two weeks starting on Monday. I'm a mid-twenties guy in-between jobs and traveling alone. What can I do over the next 48 hours to make this trip memorable and pleasant? [more inside]

My sister is travelling to Barcelona, Spain in November. She'll be at a hotel on the Plaza Catalunya for 3 days before leaving on a cruise ship. Sadly, she's on oxygen 24/7 and will be using a walker for short distances and an electric scooter to tour around the city. She'd like recommendations for food and must-see attractions within scootering distance. We've collected info from Google travel results, but they don't address accessibility concerns She plans to go to the Dali museum on a day trip, but other suggestions would be wonderful.
My son will soon be traveling to Barcelona, Spain to attend a five-month student exchange program there. He may end up staying longer. What are the best guidebooks for an American living in that city/region?
We're staying for four nights in Barcelona in mid September. First visit for both of us. Really would appreciate hotel/B&B recommendations, and of course what sights and restaurants the hive mind recommends.

Barcelona --> Girona We're picking up a rental car at noon in Barcelona in order to drive to Girona for dinner at 9pm. Any suggestions for routes to take? Or stops along the way? Is there anything significant or beautiful that we should see along the way? Or is it worth taking a longer route in order to visit a town or site? As long as we make it to Girona for our 9:00pm dinner reservation, we're open to any suggestions you might have.
Trying to plan a *very* short, cheap, but very special trip to Barcelona later this month. My partner and I aren't great at planning and we're feeling overwhelmed by all the possibilities against the limited amount of time we have. Halp! [more inside]

After some recent immersion in learning Spanish, watching Spanish films and going to Spanish conversation Meetups, I have realised I might want to have a go at teaching English as a Second Language in either Barcelona or Madrid. I have a few questions about the feasability of this at my age (42) given that the Spanish economy is not in great shape and my resume has a massive hole in it. [more inside]
Simple question: Where do we need to eat and sleep in Madrid and Barcelona? We are planning a summer trip to Spain (4 nights in Madrid, 2 nights in Barcelona, 1 night in Girona). The Girona portion of the trip is set -- dinner at El Celler de Can Roca for an extravagant birthday experience. What we need are suggestions for restaurants and hotels in Madrid and Barcelona. (We're also planning day trips to Segovia and Toledo, so you could include lunch spots in those places if you'd like.) A few notes: we are fairly sophisticated dinners, but we also love simple, straightforward food-of-the-people. Our hotel tastes run toward contemporary/modern, but we're not opposed to something classic -- we just want to avoid international chains. Thanks for any/all suggestions!
I'm going to Madrid and Barcelona next week. Anything amazing going on? [more inside]
