Backing up an open disk image?

Based on your answers to my prior question, I keep sensitive files on my Mac in an encrypted disk image. I back up my Mac to Time Machine, plus a local external Superduper! clone, and to Crashplan. How do I ensure those backups accurately record the disk image--do I have to eject the disk image or will the backups copy the open (mounted) disk? [more inside]

Can't clone a drive - software can't see it but Windows can! Why?

I'm cloning a hard drive. Windows can see the new drive and access it, but none of the cloning software can access it, no matter how I format or set it up. What's going on here, and how do I fix it? [more inside]

Can I salvage this volume restore?

I need to restore a Mac OS X hard drive. My target volume is 300GB. My source volume is a sparse image from a 500GB drive with only 179GB used, but of course, Disk Utility is looking at the total space on the volumes, not the used space. Is there any way to force this operation, modify the volume size of the sparse image, or do this in any way that will be less painful than reinstalling all my apps and settings from scratch? Segmented disc burning on a mac.

Segmented disc burning on a mac. I have 150gb of disc-image backups on a 200gb drive. I need to burn them off so i can make a fresh set. Impression 2 offers segmented direct-to-disc backup, but apparently relies on Apple's built-in discburning, which requires loads of swap space per job - in this instance, if i were to burn it all at once (I won't, believe me!) I'd need around 300gb of swap space. Which I don't have. Can recent versions of Toast do this? What about the granpappy of Mac bak, Retrospect (licensing issues aside)?
