Help me be as supportive as possible while pregnant and full of anxiety

I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first child. Meanwhile, my sweetie's father is succumbing to cancer (so, by the way, is my stepmom, whom I love dearly). I'm interested in tips on how to cope with tough stuff like this while pregnant, how to both be supportive and get the support I need right now. [more inside]

Volunteering with 1-2 Year Olds

My wife and I both used to volunteer one or two days a month. Since our child was born, it is much harder to find the time to volunteer. Are there any good volunteer opportunities that would work well with a 20 month old? We live in Brooklyn, if anyone knows anything specific to our area. [more inside]

Parents: what do you wish you knew in the first two weeks post-partum?

Approaching 37 weeks, and all the anxieties of new-mommyhood abound. I've read extensively, bought all the recommended recovery/ nursing/ baby comforting paraphernalia I think would be useful... and I'm still acutely aware that this is our first go-round and my husband and I have ZERO idea what to expect (other than sleep deprivation, a sense of despair, and unpredictability). [Pregnancy Filter]Did you/your partner deliver early? Baby measured big?

Help ease the mind of this mama. When I went to the maternal fetal specialist two weeks ago at 33 weeks, my baby was measuring four weeks ahead for the head and stomach - in the 99th percentile. I am 35 weeks and extremely large and uncomfortable. Your experience and anecdata appreciated - did you have a big baby and did you deliver early? New mommy help - door safety edition

Baby Grr is soon going to be crawling (yay) and my Google-fu is failing me for door safety as I am not really sure what I am looking for. On my main floor there is a door to the basement which needs to be open at least partially for the cats to get to their litter boxes, but obviously can't be open all the way with a little mover scooting around. Is there a product that will lock the door partially open?

4 month old not sleeping, ferber, swaddle transition- ADVICE!

My 4 month old sweet little girl decided about 2 weeks ago she didn't want to sleep her usual 5-7 hours through the night, and now wakes up every hour or two needing help getting back to sleep, and it's killing me :( Our bedtime routine consist of bottle, bath, then rock until she's asleep at between 7-8 pm. She would sleep until 1-3 am for a feed and then sleep again until 6-7am...not anymore and it's continued for a couple weeks. She uses a pacifier which is the biggest culprit, and she is still swaddled. It's a vicious cycle, re-swaddle her tight, the paci falls out she wakes up crying, or even the paci will still be in and she will drop it just waking up grunting and wiggling around and then it falls out. She is a very active sleeper, I feel like she's trying to get out of the swaddle all night. Usually I have to pick her up and rock her back to sleep or get up to pat her back put the paci back in. Around the Big Apple in 0.33 days (with a baby and 4 retirees)

Do baby probiotics work?

Our Baby Is Not Getting Married

Our kid is turning one-year-old and we're throwing a big party in a couple of weeks at my parent's house in Long Island.  We'd like to hire a photographer to document the day and have been looking around, but we're mainly just finding wedding photographers. We'd like to hire a professional (or, at least, expert) photographer -- we don't want to just give a camera to one of the guests.

Are there professional photographers who aren't on the wedding circuit who'd consider doing this sort of thing?  Would art or MFA students be interested in doing this sort of work (and, if so, how would we find them)?  Are there other non-wedding routes that we haven't thought about but should be exploring?
