What kind of car should I lease?

I used to own a 2003 BMW 325i, but it was sadly totaled. I've been intermittently renting cars & working from home since the wreck, and now it's time to bite the bullet and get one. I don't want to spend the money on another BMW. But I do want the next best thing. I have read many articles about buying vs. leasing and I've already decided to lease. I'm in the US. [more inside]

Buying a used European car for $5k or less after a car-less decade: y/n?

Used car filter: after a decade without owning a car, I'd like to get back into the game. I'd prefer to spend $5k or less. I understand this means older cars/higher miles. I find myself drawn to early 2000s VW Golfs/GTIs, late-90s BMW 300 series, '90s Saabs, early '00s Volvos. Are any of these types going to be substantially more reliable or cheaper to maintain than others? [more inside]

Is there an Apple of carmakers?

Which carmakers these days (that sell in the US) have really good build quality? I'm thinking high quality interior materials, excellent fit and finish, as well as well thought out interior components like control layouts, displays, and compartments? Maybe carmakers (or models) that are known for little surprising details? I'm now starting to look for a smaller sedan or maybe hatchback/wagon under $40K. Some of the models I'm looking at so far are the Volvo S60/V60, Subaru Legacy/Impreza, Toyota Prius, Audi A4, maybe BMW X1.

Which certified pre-owned sedan would you prefer - 2008 Mercedes C300 or

I'm in the market for a pre-owned sedan with a budget of about 20k and the 2 options that I have come down to are a 2008 Mercedes C300 and a 2007 BMW 335i. Being a total newbie about cars, I have very little idea which one should I go for. They are both certified pre-owned hence I am hoping there should not be a major problem with either one's condition. Please advise as to which one would you prefer and what are some things I should watch out for while buying them?

Can I install aftermarket iPod interfaces into my BMW?

I have a 2003 BMW 325i. There is a sticker on my windshield warning me that aftermarket electronics (and cell phones) may interfere with the car's electronic system. For real? Need a BMW mechanic near Fort Lee, NJ

Anyone know a good BMW mechanic in the Fort Lee, NJ (Near the George Washington Bridge) area? I have a 1988 325ix and need someone trustworthy and competent to take care of it. Service at the BMW dealer is outrageously expensive. I've tried various BMW message boards and come up empty. Something in a 30 minute radius would be nice, but I'll take what you got!

Is it lights out?

I was just replacing the driver-side headlight in my 2001 BMW 325i, fumbled, and dropped the burnt out bulb into the engine area. Right now, it's resting at the bottom, out of reach, but not visibly near anything else. I can't easily get to it to remove it. Will it work itself out and I don't need to worry about it, or do I need to find a way to get it out before I drive again so it doesn't do damage?

iPod Dock in Cars

Ugh..after holding my breath to see the iPod integration with BMWs, only to find out that it's a "cable securely integrated into your BMW’s glovebox", and by "securely integrated" they mean 12" of loose cable so my iPod can fly freely around the glovebox. Why can't someone make a car stereo that lets you slide in your iPod (or other device) as if it were an 8 track tape?

Is there some reason that car stereo's seem to lag so far behind other consumer devices in quality and features?
