I've recently acquired a small sum of money and I'd like to put it somewhere where I can't touch it, except in emergencies. It's not a massive amount, but its more than I usually have on hand and I'd rather not squander it. If I just leave it in my bank account I know I'll end up using it up. Where can I put it so that its aavailable in emergencies but is still hard to access? If it gains interest that would also be good. I'm in Australia.
I'm going to Sydney for a weekend and I'm looking for your recommendations of reasonably cheap accommodation - either cheapish hotels or hostels. I'm not looking for anywhere with a party vibe, but I'm open to suggestions apart from that. Ta!
It's a greeting card in a regular envelope, medium stock I think. How many forever stamps must I slap on this thing so it get to oz, or must I take it to the post office? The online calculators are confusing me. [more inside]
On May 31st, 2014, I'll be flying from NYC into Sydney, Australia. The group I'm going with (which is mainly family, and currently buying tickets) intend to be there for two weeks or so, and then head back into the United States. I've never really traveled outside of the United States, much less for an extended period, and want to take advantage of the opportunity to travel for 1, 2, maybe 3 months. I'm not sure where to start, and need help even wrapping my head around the options. [more inside]

I am seeking the name of a film, set in post-apocalyptic Sydney (Australia). I could have sworn it had Cassandra Harris in it, but IMDB disagrees. It was filmed and was set in in the early- to mid-80s, and had a bunch of people running around trying to escape the nuclear fallout that hit the Opera House and ended up in the northern beaches. The film wasn't necessarily good, but it resonated. Can you name the film? Thanks!
In a few month's time, I will be recovering from a c-section whilst wrangling a newborn and a toddler. We don't have family here in Sydney so Mr Jubey and I will be coping alone. I'll be freezing meals in advance to help there but our freezer is only small so I'm looking for a meal delivery service for 4 weeks or so til I recover. Endless takeaway doesn't appeal, nor is it healthy long term. I know of Lite & Easy but that's geared towards weight loss and while (hopefully) breast feeding I will need more calories. Can you recommend a good meal delivery service? No special dietary requirements.

The Wikipedia page on statistics about rape shows a very high crime rate for countries like UK, US and Australia in stark contrast to, say, India. The gap can't be explained simply by under-reporting, as that exists in all these countries (even assuming different rates of under-reporting). Is it because these countries have different definitions of rape? Or something else? [more inside]
Can you recommend a good camping site in Tasmania, possibly in the east? Somewhere with a fair bit of space rather than a caravan park.

I bought a couple of Twinkies today and just noticed that their expiry date is August 2007. My SO has misgivings about eating something so, well, old. I contend that Twinkies are basically Cold War-era bunker spec foodstuffs. So: Perfectly Fine, or Deadly Poison?
Due to my condition and the medications I take, I have very regular full blood workups. I asked the phlebotomist yesterday how the samples are disposed of after testing is complete. She said they might be held for as long as two years, but wasn't certain. Which surprised me. I'm curious, what happens to all my blood samples? I'm in Australia as I'm sure there's liable to be country-specific variations.

I'm looking for moving/shipping companies to send a couple of boxes of books & clothes from Australia to the USA (as I'm relocating). While requesting quotes, one company strongly suggested that I hire them to pack my things for me as apparently US Customs get suspicious if the boxes were packed by the individual mover (me, in this case) rather than by a professional. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else and the US Customs website hasn't addressed this. What's going on? [more inside]
