I live in Australia, and have noticed lot of the students I study with who are from somewhere in East Asia will adopt a Western name while they're over here, presumably to make things easier for thick-tongued Anglos. I'm curious about how these names are selected.

I'm looking to find doctors who practice private/concierge medicine in Europe and Asia. These doctors typically charge an upfront fee and gives you significantly more attention (ie, he has 500 instead of 3000 patients; is available immediately 24/7). They usually practice family medicine or internal medicine.
This type of doctor is growing in the US, but I can't seem to find them elsewhere in the world...

Foreign Rights to a Book: How much should I charge?
In the last week, two agents from two different big literary agencies in a rich Asian country (not China) have, apparently independently, come calling for one of my non-fiction how-to books.
One gave this pitch, which seems to me low-ball:

I'm visiting Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Japan, Russia and Mongolia in the course of a backpacking trip starting next month. I want to take these medicines with me, but am finding it hard to find info about restricted drugs in these countries. Can you help?

Hi friends. Planning a RTW trip with no time limit. I have a good amount of funds set aside, but I'd really like to settle somewhere in SE Asia (prefer Thailand or Vietnam) for at least 3-6 months and survive on about $10-$15 per day. Is it possible for an American to find decent (i.e. not too dangerous or dirty) accommodation and eat at that price? I'm not including any party dollars (alcohol, night life etc) in that amount...just the basics to survive.
Would prefer to live near a city, or at least a small town...just not too far into the country side.
Also, I will be splitting the expenses with a friend.
Any useful experiences or knowledge to share?
Thanks.

The Great Blizzard of Christmas 2010 has severely derailed my plans (love snow as I do). I was supposed to fly from Newark to Hong Kong on Dec. 26th at 3:30, arrive in HK at 8:30pm Dec 27th, then fly Air Asia Hong Kong-Bangkok on the morning of Dec. 28th with a connecting flight immediately following from Bangkok - Luang Prabang, Laos.
Newark is supposed to get a foot plus of snow tomorrow. I am feeling a little screwed. Is anyone out there skilled at making the best of this kind of situation? I've never dealt with it before, and have spent the last eight hours trying to make something work. Details below.

I've found myself in SE Asia (KL, Malaysia) with a 4-day weekend (because of Raya) and nothing to do. I'm thinking I probably should travel somewhere, but really not sure where. Where is a good place for a solo traveler to go in the area (the area being anywhere in the eastern hemisphere I can get in a reasonable amount of time)? Cheap is good, but not essential.
